Rememberence Day Posted on: November 11, 2010, at 10:11:51am Alright, before anyone wants to shoot off my head for what I'm about to say, lest we forget. Lots of soldiers did die defending our countries in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. However what I don't agree with is that they're put on a pedistal. Soldiers fighting in WWI didn't fight for ANY cause, they were in alliance with Britan and thus were forced to go. WWII wasn't even to fight the nazi's it was they had to choose between Russia and Germany and they almost sided with Germany, it was only the Germans who attacked first. Vietnam was conducted out of the cold war - to not allow communism in asia, so destroying millions of crops and over devestating a country is acceptable. Then we have Iraq and Afghanistan, oh yeah.... I didn't realize the United States initally went into Iraq to get "WMD's", that in fact didn't exist, then to gain control of the country so that oil could be perserved and sent back home. I'm sorry, I'm not going to support that. I may remember soldiers who lost their lives, but that's all soldiers... not just Canadians or Americans who fought these really stupid wars with a zero-sum game attitude. Nobody won these wars, and the ones who think they did only lie so they can stay in power over the stupid sheep who believe in this kind of bullshit. Aside from that, why don't actual heroes get rewarded? What about fire fighters who put their lives on the line daily to stop fires, or medical doctors who actually keep people alive. Nope, it's people who know how to shoot a gun. We're way too militaristic for our own good. I wrote this in my two minutes of silence because I do mourn for these individuals just not in the same way as most others do. |
