New User Skill Token #2 – Arcade 101

Posted in Tokens on August 4th, 200753 Comments »

Welcome back class. I’m pleased to see your dedication to the Nestlekwik School of FFR and as such I’ve arranged another assignment for you. This time we’re upping the ante a little but with a little dedication, anybody should be able to score tonight’s shiny new skill token.

Today’s homework will ask not one, but two things from you – pull up the good ol’ arcade section of the game and access the classic beginner song Super Mario 8-Bit Eighties Remix, it’s the first song in the genre. Not only do you have to pass the song, which if you can manage Free Space, I have the utmost faith in you to pass this, but you have to come out of the song with a max combo of at least 100. The song file, rated one in difficulty, has a total of 174 arrows in it, so your keyboard smashing succession needs to ensure you hit a minimum of 57 percent of the song’s arrows without any errors in between.

What’s in it for you? Upon completing the task, you’ll be awarded the song Geno’s Forest F-Zero – do well on an arcade song and ye shall receive yet another video game rendition. Ha, ha, yet another amusing coincidence, no? The song by XBrav is accompanied by a stepfile created for us by Coolboyrulez0. Do you remember Geno? Great Super Nintendo memories for sure. But Super Mario RPG is a lecture for another day. *ahem*

The difficulty of the file jumps a little bit from the one ratings you’ve been receiving thus far, ranking in at a respectable four in difficulty. The file, while only clocking in at 1:25, is a real fun one that will introduce our new players to eighth note streams leading into double steps. Remember, when you unlock the song, you will have to refresh the page in order for it to add to the game’s songlist and you will find the song under the “S” – Skill Token genre.

On another note, we’re currently testing a new feature with the subscribers that is so secret that right now it is hidden under a My Little Pony bed sheet in a warehouse just outside Blaine, Missouri. Yet, again, another benefit of supporting the site, so get to it and subscribe!

That is all, class. Seeing as nearly 3,500 achieved success with the first assignment, I believe we will have yet another high passing rate with your newest homework assignment. Super Mario 8-Bit Eighties Remix – 100 combo – pass the Mario song for even more Mario. Good luck.

New User Skill Token #1

Posted in Tokens on August 2nd, 200767 Comments »

July is now over and the previous skill token month very possibly left a lot of new users in the dust. Worry not because August will provide a handful of skill tokens which do not require mountains of … well … skill. Tonight we introduce the first of the New User Skill Tokens straight from the Nestlekwik School of FFR by adding another token to the classified beginner level of tokens. Now pay attention class – to unlock this shiny new song token, go to the Dance category and pass the song Free Space, the very first song on the Dance listing.

Lesson one merely requires one to survive 59 grueling arrows so study up and report back in a couple of days for a harder lesson. Upon passing Free Space, you’ll be rewarded with the skill token for the song Eien Maikyu by Yuki Otoha. Eien Maikyu is Japanese for Eternal Labyrinth and is rated a one in difficulty thanks to a step file of timely reds and blues by jimerax. Running at 1:41, the song is a nice ballad that has a much slower BPM than nearly all of the songs on FFR. It’s also kind of fitting that Free Space, a wide open area, unlocks Eternal Labyrinth, a tight-quartered maze. It’s like they are opposites! … Well, I thought it was a funny coincidence.

Now I see a lot of the more skilled players rolling their eyes at this task, grumbling about how easy it is. Well, then, mister or madam, do we have a feature for you. Courtesy of lightdarkness, we now have a feature for subscribers only on the skill tokens page which divides the skill tokens into a set of six difficulty levels and suggests a token for you based on the lowest-skilled token left available for you. If you have more than one skill token left in that difficulty, you can refresh the page, and the feature will generate a new suggestion for you. Handy, isn’t it! Don’t have the feature? Well, that means you’re not a subscriber! What are you waiting for? Subscribe now!

Now go and fetch the new token and revisit the token page to see what previous tokens can give you a suitable challenge! Class dismissed.

How can I deny someone who is so dedicated.. So selfless.. So.. Sorry dude, that is just downright disgusting. I can’t say anything positive about your experience besides the fact that you have just won a 1 year subscription or t-shirt of your choice. You may also opt to give the subscription to someone else on the site if you wish. Wow.. I don’t think I could have done what you did.

Who am I talking about? darklordsarumon9 of course. Just check out this pic.

Thanks to everyone for their entries. That was a nice & disturbing entry back into the realm of spontaneous contests (those with weak stomachs, please refrain from viewing contest thread)..

IN OTHER NEWS!! (news beeping sound and typewriters goes here)

We have released a hidden token.. You may be able to find this token on this site at some point. Me as a person would not classify it as trivial either.. period.

Good luck! Remember, no user clues or giving away it’s location anywhere on FFR.

Now that Tass is done dominating the front page with his bazillions of skill tokens, we can move on to something WAY more important. That’s right… Spontaneous Contests! These contests are so highly organized and planned that even your non-existent accountant would be proud.

Just as Tass promised you yesterday, we are going to pop open a bottle of Spontaneous Contest tonight.

When will this contest start?: 8pm central (9pm eastern).
What will you need?: Hell if I know. It’s Spontaneous!
How do I win?: Do I need to answer this? Common people stop asking all these.. wait.. I was making up those questions.. never mind.

Prepare your mind, flush your toilets and be ready. Details at 8pm Central sharp.

Cheers,

Synthlight

(Thanks again to Tass for pumping in over 60 licensed songs into FFR and all the simfile makers who helped in the effort over this past month. We love you all!)

Skill Token Months Ends… The Five & MaxX AttaxX…. Hype!

Posted in Spontaneous Contests, Tokens on July 31st, 200771 Comments »

MaxX AttaxX and The Five draw our skill token month to a close… it’s been a fun and bumpy ride. And kudos to the 10-15 people who will manage to unlock all 63 tokens released (I’ll try and compile a list and post these people’s names tomorrow… so if you want your name on the front page and think you can get all 63 tokens… do that ASAP!).

In other news… tomorrow will kick off AUGUST! Woo hoo! New User Skill Token Month, which you all will find out more about tomorrow… but rest assured… almost everyone will be able to unlock at least a few tokens, so don’t feel too bad if many of the tokens from July were too difficult for you.

Expect a long overdue regular token to be released tomorrow as well. AND… oh yes… did I mention a SPONTANEOUS CONTEST sometime tomorrow too.

August 1st will be a day you do not want to miss!

{Colossus}, Melonman, Hatten 2, Distant Land… Tass was too lazy to find an amusing title that worked all four of those together.

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Tokens on July 30th, 200773 Comments »

Yesterday we released Distant Land and Hatten Carnival! v2. Those songs are by Hoisin Sauce (aka, Toph.) and DJ Sharpnel, respectively. Hatten Carnival! v2 is an easier version of v1; no 24ths, many less jumps and 16ths. Many of you have said we don’t need a v2… and we probably didn’t NEED one, but I liked hi19‘s file for it so much that I felt we could have 2 versions. I just goofed and put the harder one in the game first. To unlock… pass v1 (Dance2) with 550+ perfects.

Distant Land pretty much sounds like the opening/ending of Digital Explosion’s Hardcore of the North… so it was only appropriate that we used HotN as the unlock song for it. Stepfile is by Brilliant Dynamite Neon. I rated it a 9 for its 16th streams and 24th bursts throughout the song. To unlock Distant Land, get 700+ combo on Hardcore of the North (Token) with 2 or less misses, 0 or 1 boos, 0 or 1 averages, and 20 or less goods.

Today’s 2 are {Colossus} by cornandbeans and Melonman’s OP by DJ_Ossa. The stepfile for Melonman’s OP is by hi19hi19, and is For Masters Only for its 200bpm 24ths and alternating 16th jumps, which give it 94 4-framers in only 1:50. To unlock, AAA or BlackFlag (1 good FC with 0 averages or boos) Jurs OP (Classic) 3 times in a row.

{Colossus} is another original by my main CnB. It clocks in at 3:37 and has sections of 8ths, 16th triplets, and sections of varying bpm 16th stream. because of these factors and length, I rate it a 9. To unlock, pass {Red Alert} (Misc) with 300+ combo and 450+ perfects. Stepfile by SulferDragon.

Enjoy… as tomorrow is the last day of Skill Token Month

-Tass

PS – Start the hype… August is NEW USER SKILL TOKEN MONTH!

Shipped out of Funk

Posted in Embeddable Widgets, Tokens on July 29th, 200722 Comments »

Small update… moved a few songs out of funk. Speed Kitty to Dance, Nice Nice Noise to Misc and Hatten Carinval, Dokudenpa, and Prison Break into Dance2.

Dokudenpa will be available as the public SotW in about 6 hours. It’s located between dot death and {Rose}. The song is quite famous/popular in the SM world, thanks to a file by Skor about 3-4 years ago. It’s by Sharpnel, so it has that J-Core sound to it. But, instead of the well known constant stream, stepfile author Macgravel decided to change it up and be original. So don’t expect many streams in this file, just lots of triplets and jumps. Few 4-framers, as the bpm is 188. Low 10 footer, because of length and the 4-framers.

Also now available in Funk is today’s subscriber SotW… the long awaited FFR simfile debut of DigitalS3r4ph. The song is Secrets and Lies, a video game sounding original song by Rushjet1. Has that old Castlevania 8-Bit sound from the NES days.

And don’t forget about LoveHateHero’s Embedded Player. Check them out, now on tour!
