New Difficulty System Update~
Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on June 3rd, 2012
Sup guys, just giving you the heads-up. I’ll be messing with the difficulties over the next day or so, so if you start to see some random errors or songs with horribly odd difficulty numbers, just try to ignore it for the meantime. There are some engine changes being made, and almost every file in-game is going to be re-ordered within its genre in the engine, as well as having a new difficulty assigned to it. This is a massive task with there being approx. 1300~ songs on FFR. So I am asking you all to be patient, and wait to see how it all turns out in a few days.
Thanks in advance everyone!!

my entire life has come down to this moment. All I have to say is I am very aroused and I’m trying to hide it but this is just too much…
Posted at 2:24pm on June 3rd, 2012
Almost looks like you guys are going up to 50. Does this mean you’ll keep the old names for whole ranges of difficulty numbers?
Posted at 2:46pm on June 3rd, 2012
The changes are being made for the 1-99 sub-rating system that will be sub-divided into the 1-20 difficulties.
The tedious/manual changing of each file and its order within the engine is happening atm (yw guys;D), and the engine changes will come in later which will convert these 1-99 into their respective difficulty.
So, they will be viewable as 1-99 for a limited time in-game, but once the engine changes happen it will all be 1-20~

This is so hott, you don’t even know. I’m so fxcking wet right now pls hurry up.

sweet titties
Posted at 3:49pm on June 3rd, 2012
Sorry but I don’t see the point of using a 1-99 scale and then going to 1-20 based on there. The whole problem with 1-12 is that it’s not good enough for actually describing difficulty differences, right? So why not just use the 1-99 scale ingame and then keep the old difficulty names for ranges of numbers? For instance everything from 55 to 67 (or whatever) might be a Challenging. Then we get a fully useful and descriptive system, but all the old discussions still make sense. No point in renaming all the files twice and ALSO ruining 9 years of posts.

I agree 100% with qqwref
Posted at 5:06pm on June 3rd, 2012
so…. That not-so-new songs post…
Posted at 5:11pm on June 3rd, 2012
agree with qqwref 100%, yet again.
Posted at 6:01pm on June 3rd, 2012
Agreed with qqwref, more doesn’t mean better
Posted at 8:52pm on June 3rd, 2012
For now, 1-20 will be actual difficulty rating, and 1-99 will be used for the song order. When more songs are added and we feel 1-20 is not sufficient we can shift for 1-99 system easily.
Posted at 9:40pm on June 3rd, 2012
yeah what qqwref said. I do like the idea of a new level scale considering 1-12/13 isn’t accurate much anymore, but he makes a great point with how every file will be rated a 3rd time now on a 3rd difficulty scale, it just seems like tedious work when we already have a 1-99 scale that’s been being worked practically as long as the 1-12 scale has been. with the switch to 1-20, just be prepared for tons of debates about files being the “wrong” difficulty, when we’ve already been dealing with this on the 1-99 scale. I mean yea setting it up to 1-99 leaves even more room for debates of files being the wrong difficulty, but at the same time i feel it makes some people care less about dispute because say 80-85 still gives you at least an idea of how hard the file is, who cares if a 84 should be a 85 it’s just subjective to the player at that point.
Anyways w.es i’m don’t mean to sound like i’m complaining, just my 2 cents, I’m really happy to see a new difficulty scale after all this time actually getting implemented :’)

Wow, the progress is going really fast for how many songs there are. Excited for when it’s finished!
Posted at 8:13am on June 4th, 2012
we’re up to the VC/60+S already o:
Posted at 7:14pm on June 4th, 2012
4 more songs to rate :O!!
Posted at 7:29pm on June 4th, 2012
From what I understand is that basically, the 1-20 scale is the naming scheme (think FMO, VC etc etc) while the 1-99 scale is to portray the actual difficulty variation. The 1-20 scale is pretty much a list of names based on ranges on the 1-99 scale rather than its own difficulty scale I guess.
ex:
difficulty 1 to 5 would be easiest
difficulty 5 to 10 would be beginner
Posted at 2:15pm on June 5th, 2012
old rating system was fine honestly do people really care that much?
Posted at 4:09pm on June 5th, 2012
I care that much, awesome update :3
Posted at 7:44pm on June 5th, 2012
K really that news post would be nice to have before the next set of new songs come out lmfao
Posted at 11:35pm on June 5th, 2012
Most new songs in the past year or two have been far too difficult for their difficulty score assigned. I wonder if one day some difficulty 2 or 3 songs will be considered much harder due to their extremely difficult chance at FCing or AAAing them ^^

Posted at 6:18am on June 6th, 2012
yeah @ sf, i didn’t realize thats what was going to happen at first, i thought it was legit just gonna be 1-20 and nothing to do with 1-99 at all, once i started seeing 30s and stuff ingame though i was like o.. looks like im retarded
Posted at 10:26am on June 6th, 2012
“o.. looks like I’m retired” ;D
Posted at 10:24pm on June 6th, 2012
lol I have AAAed a difficulty level 40 song
Posted at 10:36pm on June 6th, 2012
I will admit, I was a little skeptical about this at first since I’ve been so used to the old difficulty system, but I realize now that this is a great way to distinguish the difficulty level of each song individually. Now to sort the ranges of difficulties into their respective difficulty titles.
Much appreciated for the time and effort of making this possible!
Posted at 8:40am on June 7th, 2012
winter wind etude should be 88… get it, 88 piano keys…/bad joke
Posted at 3:16pm on June 7th, 2012
remember when there were only 11 difficulties?
Posted at 8:36am on June 9th, 2012
Progress seems to have slowed, there still remains the same handful of unchanged songs
Posted at 1:24pm on June 9th, 2012
Can’t wait to see this completed! Now we’ll finally have a difficulty system that doesn’t have huge gaps between songs in the same difficulty. Glad I returned to this new feature, although there are a couple of songs still hiding in the unchanged difficulty (like Daybreak). It’s a work in progress though so I’m impressed so many songs got converted over so quickly, keep it up!
Posted at 9:56pm on June 9th, 2012
Why don’t we just use BOTH systems instead of simply changing it entirely?
Put all the original difficulties back to where they were, and then employ the 1-99 long scale alongside it.
Posted at 9:56pm on June 9th, 2012
RATO for example would be 13 (96)
Posted at 10:43pm on June 9th, 2012
THIS ^
Posted at 10:49pm on June 9th, 2012
MI4 REAL,
We’re having three difficulty systems here:
1-13 scale
1-99 scale
1-20 scale
So, RATO for example would be 13 (96)(19).

I just realized that all of my replays from 2011 are not working. Where is the thread on this, please? I seem to be missing key information. Still, I would appreciate any help with fixing my Shihen full combo so that it shows up in my stats. Thank you all and sorry for dp and long post

BLUEBERRY PIE HUUUUEEEE
i like dis update ;D
Although I’m a little late, qqwref has a good point on this…
Posted at 7:21pm on June 10th, 2012
I think the displayed difficulty should be like Easiest(3) or Brutal(96) etc. Best parts of Descriptive and 99 difficulty systems combined.
Posted at 5:04am on June 11th, 2012
honestly. i think most songs above 8 should be recalculated for difficulty, i’ve played songs that were ranked 8 that were harder in every way then an 11 ranked song. how did all of this come about to begin with? someone complaining?
Posted at 6:52pm on June 13th, 2012
1-99 is stupid, i instantly was like is there a way i can go back to the old 1-12? but i was pleasantly surprised when i seen an option to change it to 1-20. i may grow to like the 1-20.
