New Site Event: A Week of Trick or Treat!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on October 21st, 201112 Comments »

October has brought many great things to FFR, like the squashing of bugs on our beloved game engines, the return of SpinItUp, the improvement of Multiplayer, the Photo Hunt, and of course, a ton of user-made tournaments to keep the community on their toes. Today however, resident forum moderator psychoangel691 and our “fix-it-all” administrator Velocity have collaborated on something completely new, for the sake (and fun!) of Halloween.

How many of you forgot all of the great things that a memorable Halloween entailed? Some people are into egg bombing (as am I, and SHAME on you for enjoying it! :p), others are into the candy hunting, and others will just dress up in the spirit of All Hallows’ Eve. Here at FFR, we tend to do things slightly different than the norm, though. For this event, you’ll be doing a scavenger hunt. I’m not going to get into everything on this front post, as it is not an event of my creation. However, you can take a look at all of the details of this event by clicking the image above! Or, if you’re too lazy to shift your mouse a few pixels, you can check it out here.

Songs Of The Week (October 20th, 2011)

Another week here at FFR means another set of new songs for everyone to enjoy.
There are four songs this week, with the veteran’s song listed in blue. Check out this week’s new releases:

[October 20 Released Songs]
The Degradation of the Soul by MvM (Silvuh) – Misc (Industrial) / Very Easy / 2:28
Clash on the Big Bridge by The Black Mages (hi19hi19) – Rock (Instrumental VG Rock) / Standard / 3:58
Keep It Short by Beatdrop (bmah) – Hip-Hop (Techno) / Very Difficult / 2:02
No Purpose Flour by SessileNomad (iironiic) – Dance 2 (Drum’n Bass) / For Masters Only / 2:50

The veteran’s song from two weeks ago has been released to the public as well. Don’t forget to give it a try if you haven’t had the chance yet!
Beware the Purple Water (TC_Halogen) – Arcade (Game Remix) / For Masters Only / 3:24

We appreciate your feedback on these songs. Visit this thread and tell us what you think!

In addition to the new songs, there have been numerous other changes here at FFR over the past week.
Some of the biggest changes have related to FFR’s multiplayer. Specifically, multiplayer now uses raw score! Gone are the days where getting one miss in multiplayer spells instant defeat- things should be a lot more competitive now.
If that announcement gets you excited about jumping into multiplayer, why not see where you stack up against the rest of the MP community first? Check out the new multiplayer stats page here and see how you compare. This page can be accessed any time you like by following the link in the Daily Stats page.
As always, there have been numerous minor bug fixes too. These include the squashing of a credit transfer bug and minor issues with score reporting on the Velocity engine.

Looking for a way to help the FFR community grow even more? Are you fluent in a language other than English? If you are, check out this thread for your opportunity to help translate FFR into other languages!

That’s it for this update. Enjoy your arrow smashing!

Mid-October Newspost

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on October 14th, 20116 Comments »

It’s about halfway through this wonderful October and the time seems right for another update on what’s happening here at FFR!

FFR’s routine song additions have continued: 4 songs of the week were released October 13th. There are 3 regular songs and 1 purchased song that is also this week’s veteran’s song (in blue). As always the veteran’s song will be available to everyone in two weeks.

[October 13 Released Songs]
Alpha Device by Atomic Sphere (leonid) – Dance (Drum’n Bass) / Very Difficult / 1:44
Eight by Hexx (MrPopadopalis25) – Arcade (Game Remix) / Tricky / 2:53
morning grory by Modulation Spin (bmah) – Dance (Instrumental) / Easy / 2:26
mutant corecore by Padlock (DossarLX ODI & t-rogdor) – Purchased (Noisy) [1,500 credits] / For Masters Only / 0:42

The veteran’s song from two weeks ago, Papyrus’s Adventure, has been released to the public as well. Make sure to give it a try if you haven’t yet had the chance!

If you have any feedback about these songs and files we’d love to hear it! Here’s the thread in which you should voice your opinion.

In other interesting news, there has recently been a minor bug fix. The dreaded “miss glitch” that occasionally reared its head on FFR’s more difficult files has finally been squashed! Major thanks to our resident admin and coder Velocity for fixing this issue once and for all. You can check here if you’re curious about the details.

For the enterprising simfile artists out there, it’s never too late to start helping make your mark on the game. The Hard Songs Batch closes in a few days, so here’s your reminder to get those files sent in! If you’re interested in trying to get your own file into FFR be sure to check out the Songs/Permissions Subforum for some tips on getting started.

That’s it for this update. Enjoy your arrow smashing!

One Year Anniversary

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on October 9th, 201138 Comments »

FFR went down in December 20, 2009 and was revived in October 9, 2010. So.. It has been exactly a year since FFR’s Revival ! Also we need to note that it’s almost 9 years since FFR’s birth (Oct, 2002).
The site is in the process of recovery and development now.

We have 2 special songs as celebratory releases today..
A quite easy song and a relatively difficult song.

Crash Up Against The Inevitable (Xayphon) – Dance 2 (IDM Breakcore) / For Masters Only / 3:23
Hana Yuduki (jimerax) – Hip-Hop (Ambient J-Pop) / For Beginners / 1:52

On another note, Spin It Up game is updated a bit recently, so check it out here!

p.s. A new and improved FFR Chat will be finding its way to the public eye in the very near future. (Certain features might require a camera and microphone…)

Cheers,
JX

Time Warp – “Let Me Be Your Pirate” Re-Added into the Game!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on October 3rd, 201124 Comments »

Whoa, a blast from the past! The song “Let Me Be Your Pirate”, created by DrugstoreCowboy, has been re-added to the song list! I think you’ll all remember this old tune when you play it one more time! The high-scores for the song have been kept too, so there is no need to worry about re-AAAing it if you don’t want to play it (why wouldn’t you want to though?)!

The song is a Difficulty 7 file, with a song length of 2:00 flat and a short 593 notes, stepped by hi19hi19.
It’s located in the Funk genre, so go play it! What are you waiting for?

Cheers and have a good time FFRing,
Netjet! And the awesomely awesome FFR Staff

The 5th Official Photo Hunt Has Started!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on October 2nd, 20119 Comments »

For you prospective photo scavengers who have been ever so patiently waiting to display beautiful pictures of roadkill licking, mannequin manipulation, and/or your rendition of how a homeless person should act: your time has come now.

While you may not be taking pictures of the extreme (yet…), it is still worth nothing that the fifth official Photo Scavenger Hunt released the first round objectives today, at 2 PM server time. The structure of the contest has changed dramatically, using week long rounds rather than just nailing everything in a single shot. With three more rounds in the future, there’s plenty of laughs and insanity to come.

If you’re looking to have some safe for work fun with a camera, drop in The 5th Official FFR Photo Scavenger Hunt thread and take a stab at the requirements. You have nothing but your dignity to lose.

justin_ator & psychoangel691 with special thanks to TC_Halogen for writing this for us.

September Wrapup

September is coming to an end and as we have said goodbye to summer, we have said hello to many new things on FFR – as well as welcome back to some old. From tier points, to songs of the week, here’s what’s happened in September:

Are you a follower? Keep up to date with all that’s happening at FFR on
Twitter
And don’t forget to like us on Facebook

Thanks to the ~magical~ development team of FFR, you can now take a peek at who’s roaming in Profile Chat without having to take thirty precious seconds out of your day to step in the chat room. Pretty cool, eh? Take a look at the left sidebar while on a non-forum/non-profile page to see the user list, and what each member’s user-group is.

Tier points are changing here on FFR. Thanks to qqwref, 10+ tier points can now be added to all songs. There will also be new requirements that will include some more lower level user friendly songs. Keep up to date with the tier point changes by following this thread here.

What uses a mouse and spins? That’s right, Spin It Up is making a return to FFR. You can help beta test it by playing and reporting any bugs you find here.

Mannequin? Rat-burgers? That’s right – it’s back! The 5th Official Photo Hunt has been announced and will be starting Oct. 2nd. Get your cameras ready and keep your eyes on this thread for some good laughs!

New Tier Point system in progress

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on September 18th, 201123 Comments »

Over the years, the Tier Point system has been revised many times in an effort to make it more accurate and more fair. There is still work to be done, though, especially in tracking the skills of more casual players. But now, a group of dedicated FFR users have started working on the end-all version, fixing all of the problems of the old one! And they want YOU to get involved!

Long-time FFR players i love you, qqwref, and DossarLX have come together to work on the perfect Tier Point system. It will remove most of the incentive to mash, track all the skill levels from FCing Difficult files to AAAing For Gurus Only ones, and be as fair as possible. They want the community to help tell them which 7-10 difficulty songs should be included into this new system! Further details will be explained in the community section of this thread.

Of course, you can feel free to give these guys upvotes, comments, PMs, IMs, and/or any other type of thanks!

[Leaders]
- i love you (Byron) – Tier Point Leader
- qqwref (Michael) – Tier Point Co-Leader and Coder
- DossarLX (Roy) – Tier Point Co-Leader and FGO Requirement Leader

[Thanks]
- jimerax (Michiya) – For posting this on the front page.
- Sprite- (Dom) – Awesome person, helped with the TP code fix
- FFR Community – We love you!
