Let me just say that the graphics and action in AC is superb. All of the action scenes are REALLY cool. The CGI is simply the best CGI ever, too.

Too bad that's where the coolness of it ends. The story is utterly incomprehensible - they never explain a SINGLE ELEMENT of the plot in full detail. Yes, I mean the AC plot, not the FF7 plot. It's just a mess of random battle scenes. Sephiroth returns for reasons that are so vague that it's impossible to describe their vagueness due to being vague.

The music, although well done, is barely audible for the most part due to the millions of random gun and sword sound effects during basically the entire scenes. The OWA remix would be cool if you could hear it, as well as the remix of Still More Fighting. They're all done in a cool, Black Mages-esque, metal style. Like I said, shame you can't hear them. The random J-Rock song during the second half of the credits isn't very good, either.

Meh. I'll give it a 6/10 just because the battles were so cool and the graphics ruled hard.

The story was just in there so the fights would see less out of the blue

I just got finished watching this.

The fight scenes were, for the most part, absolutely orgasmic. Especially Cloud vs. guys in the woods and Cloud vs. Sephiroth.

The rest of the movie may as well have not existed, although Reno, Rude, and Barret were all hilarious. Granted, I didn't go into the movie expecting anything more than action, so I am not dissappointed.

In fact, I love well done action like this more than almost anything else in animation, so this movie gets a solid recommendation from me.

Moogy, how can you expect a movie that's storyline follows a very incomprehensible game plot to have a plot that makes sense itself? FF7 was simply the most loophole filled game I've ever played (and why I don't like it much.)

However

CG fighting = fun, even if the main character is an emo piece of ****. So I'll see it once it actually comes out.

I've never even played FFVII, and i still knew that. If you use the internet you know that. If you know what Final Fantasy is, you will know that.

I won't watch this; since i've never even played the game, it'll probably just be a big sack of crap to me.

Downloaded it without any subtitles, not like I care, I watched it only for the action.

September 16th, 2005, 09:11 PM
Seriously guys. Can you go bashing this movie without really understanding what goes on in it? I watched the movie without subtitles, and the parts that I see everybody bitching about make sense in Japanese.

Why Sephiroth comes back: Sephiroth doesn't "come back". That guy (the main antagonist) has to become Sephiroth in order for Jenova to return and destroy the planet once and for all.

Yeah, a lot of it was random, but they couldn't just make the movie as long as they wanted, because then there would just be huge amounts of filler for those idiots who are like OMFG CLOUD HAS A SMALL SCAR ON HIS LEFT TENDON THAT WASN'T THERE IN FF7 THIS MOVIE BLOWS DONKEY ASS AND WT**** I HATE THIS.

Seriously. It would take another hour and a half or whatever to explain what went on in those two years. It was better to just be a little ambiguous about it and save a lot of time.

Anyone got some english subs for this? I'd like them please.

Oh yeah, I did watch the movie in Japanese. The graphics are AMAZING. Too bad I can't understand any of it, otherwise I would give a more proper review.

suicidalmuskrat
September 18th, 2005, 03:10 AM
Why not add another hour and a half? If the graphics are so orgasmic, even a 20 minute description of how Cloud suffered the small scar on his left tendon should be great, right? This is why people are stupid. I would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather watch a 2 hour movie consisting of stick people in flash calibur animation with good character development, a solid plot, and intriguing dialogue than watch an amazing looking movie which makes no sense....meh. I guess until the stick people movie get's released I'll just wait for my download of AC to finish.

I just actually watched this.

The fight scenes were INCREDIBLE.

I just love how Shinra being rebuilt was not momental at all.

And also, the plost did not develop at all after Kadaj or whatever took the kids to the forest.

OMNISLASH.

Pah. You people pay too close attention.

The sword was the only one I noticed. But hey, he didn't BLEED after it happened.

A lot of times in the movie, people who should be bleeding aren't.

I noticed that while watching it. The lack of blood was clearly a directorial decision - this movie is not at all dark in tone (quite the opposite, really), and having blood flying around everywhere would have just taken away from the sheer fun of the incredible action sequences.

Not enough Yuffie.

Seriously though, the movie was alright. I graphics, grand. The action, grand. The plot, at least it was there, but not so grand.

I think the American audience is missing out on a lot of the pre-story though since there were two "prequel" games that came out in Japan. I dont know if they are planning on being release in America or not though.

I did find Reno and Rude quite entertaining to watch though. They were a pretty good duo.

But still, not enough Yuffie.

scorpio1690
September 19th, 2005, 10:30 PM
Yuffie pissed me off in the game, I never liked her even though she was in my top three characters. There were two prequel games to this in Japan? Are you talking about the cellphone game FF&:Before Crisis, or FF7:Dirge of Cerberus?

....So...You were talking about Before Crisis then? That one's two years before FF7, Cloud's in the Turks with Zack, Sephiroth, Reno and Rude I do believe. Maybe not Reno and Rude, but Zack and Sephiroth for sure.

Do you mean plot holes? Because if you do, ff8 had more plotholes than 7.

if you did mean loopholes, explain for those of us that don't understand (me).

dirge of cerberus or cerebus or whatever it is is coming out for the ps2, sometime in nov/dec holidays, if I'm not mistaken. No word on before crisisin any of the mags, although there might be some rumo mill info around the net of inter that I havn't found, not that I'm actually looking.

as for the movie, as been stated you understand it all when you've watched some of the trailers, read into the game a little, and make some of your own conclusions

*insert massive ammounts of spoilers*

for example, when meteor hit Midgar it was quite obvious that it took massive ammounts of planets lifestream to hold that thing at bay (all thanks to Aries) and it was quite obvious that meteor couldn't have just been wiped from the face of the planet. notice that when demolition people take down buildings, the building just doesn't dissapear, theres a whole buncha scrap. That's basically what happened to meteor, sure it was destroyed and the threat stopped, but the thing didn't just dissapear. The remanents of metoer stayed on the planet, and when the lifestream dispersed from midgar, pieces of meteor had to have been swpet up along with it, hence the geostigma (in the subs they even call it star scar syndrom) star scar, meteor, any bells yet people?

Now the spirits of sephiroth, ie bad guys, I don't get them completly besides the fact that they could also have been created like sephiroth himself, or were perhaps ex-Soldiers (ex being that shinra doesn't actually exist anymore and neither should soldier) infused with mako like cloud. I find this theory to be the best because they talk about cloud being big brother and a traitor.

reunion is just a term that was given to jenova's rebirth which would ave truly happened had all three spirits had fused with the head of jenova. If you played the game, you fought peices of jenova, which were always preceeded by some mention of sephiroth being there befor hand. Sephiroth is the.... I want to say vehicle of jenova, but that doesn't sound right. Perhaps the cause of geostigma. If you remember in the game, sephirtoh merged with the planet in order to absorb the planets energy to make jenova reborn and himself and her gods (god like if you want to be specific) when meteor was to strike. you can't tell me that that merger couldn't have affected the planet on some level which might be the cause of geostigma

to explain why some people have geostigma and others don't. Not everyone lives in midgar, not everyone got the full blow of meteor. Also, geostigma could be considered like other diseases, some people are carriers and never get sick themselves. specultaion yes, but good spec

if you understand any of what I've just typed you deserve a cookie, after reading it I want to delete it all, but I won't

Clones of Sephiroth perhaps? That's what i was thinking. In the game they're the guys in Nibelheim in the little black cloaks with numbers. I mean, both Cloud, Zack, and all the clones were tried to be made in the image of Sephiroth. The only reason they succeeded with Sephiroth though is because he had an actual mother, as did Zack and Cloud. The others were just test tube babies, to a greater extent. They call Cloud brother obviously because he too was infused with Jenova cells and Mako, though did his body reject the Jenova cells, hence the failed experiment and him being ashamed and taking on Zack's persona.

dontcareaboutmyid
September 22nd, 2005, 01:08 AM
ho damn I completly forgot about them. That would explain the opening scenes when the turks took jenova's head from within Crater completly. Reunion was mentioned within the ff7 game wasn't it. All the numbers talked about it, but I don't remember names, which is another stumper. Perhaps they named themselves or just decided to stick with numbers, I don't know.

Also, what did kadja summon? We're all saying its Bahamut, but there was speculation it was a Weapon from the scenes from trailers.

scorpio1690
September 22nd, 2005, 01:47 AM
That's totally Bahaumut, they just changed him to look like the crappy FFX version a little more. They should've just used a dragon, I think it looks really bad, like a statue and unlifelike. I dono, Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo seem like failed experiments, but ALMOST not failed. They weren't fixiated on Reunion, and had more free will (which wasn't very much ie. Kadaj in the church with Jenova's neck MOTHER MOTHER MOTHER). I felt that Sephiroth's new plan was kinda cheesey, they just needed an excuse as to why he was back and came up with that though. It was still good... Cause Sephiroth's a pimp... He shoulda won...

Moogy is an idiot.

Continuing along, I thought it was a nifty movie, but this thread really helped me understand it. And I enjoyed FFVII when I was a kid, but I don't think I'd enjoy it again. It's really funny that I understood such a complex plot and so many story threads when I was 10 and now I would have no patience for it.

I redirected people who posted about this movie in GVG from there to here.

It IS a movie after all. Whether or not it's based on a video game is irrelevant solely due to the fact that it did either air in a theatre or appear on a DVD to be seen as a movie. Games are played, movies are watched.

Would've been better had Moogy not killed it.
