I've written a little program to improve the smoothness in FFR R1. I've always preferred to play SM because of the high frame rate, and I wanted to get something similar on FFR.
Download the program at: http://www.latent.demon.co.uk/ffr_smooth.html It's not a trainer or a cheat - you use the website and play as normal. It simply magnifies the game and then smooths the arrow motion. Unfortunately, the process reduces the graphic quality somewhat, so it's not ideal. It can also remove static backgrounds from songs. Some people may find it useful, but it might not work for others.... The program is simple to use, but there is some preparation required - please check the included instructions and FAQ before asking questions in this thread... Good luck EDIT: Works in Windows XP only, needs DirectX 9. To play in lo-res, you'll need a reasonable (but not amazing) computer, capable of running Direct3D games adequately. The hi-res version needs a fairly good gaming rig. Works in Vista, but the lag problems seem too much to overcome here. I could port it to OpenGL, but it would be a pain, so don't hold your breath. I'm afraid I'm not a Mac or Linux programmer, sorry guys... EDIT: Update to 1.12 on the website. Supports the normal game as well as lo-res now. Some freezing problems resolved. Nice program.
But I can't seem to get it to work right for me. It works on Firefox and IE. But when I have the game showing in it's screen, And switch to it and away from the internet. It's screen goes blank again. What do I do? Cause I don't understand how were supposed to play with the browser blocking our view lol. |

Run the game in low resolution in a browser in the corner of your screen.
Then stretch the program window to cover the remainder of the screen. Then the windows don't overlap. If this works, I will love you, trying it now.....
EDIT: Damn....any chance you can make a Mac version? People with macs are probably the people that need this the most, I say that as a mac user.....

It makes the screen jump up and down which really makes it harder. Really smooth though and I guess that is caused by the jumping? Nice skills though.

The program smooths the arrows, but makes other graphics (like the combo count) wobble. The technical reason for this is given in the FAQ. If this is the jumpiness you mean, then you just have to ignore it. I only notice the arrows so I'm not bothered.
However, I tested on some slower machines and they couldn't keep up running two graphical programs at once. They get unexpected jumps, especially on complex songs. Maybe this is your issue? Not much I can do there except optimise it some more... Re: Mac version - I don't have one, and I'm not familiar with developing on them, so I'm afraid I can't help there, sorry... EDIT: Latest version much reduces the graphical wobble. Last edited by MRichards; 08-28-2007 at 09:35 AM.. |

Is there any way that you can make it NOT use Direct3D? I have a really weird problem where direct3D programs will NOT work on my system :\

Re: Virtual PC for Mac support - I'd be surprised if this worked, the timing is extremely intricate in my program and is sure to get messed up in translation.
Re: Non-DirectX - I guess I *could* add OpenGL support, but it would be a pain and only worthwhile if there are others who needed it. So not just now, OK...? |

I highly demand a Vista patch.
I can't play FFR at all on this **** OS and hopefully this might do the trick! |

Made it work in Vista, but FFR R1 lags too much in Vista on my systems. I've upped the version on the website anyway, try it if you like:

I'll DL it tonight (mac at work).
My machine is ok I guess. 2.2 Ghz and 2 gigs of ram and a Radeon card (came with the laptop, don't remember model). Does the static background remover actually work? If so, awesome.

Yes, it removes static backgrounds effectively. The arrows/text get a little rough around the edges, but it works. Can't do anything about those god-awful animated backgrounds though... It uses pixel shaders to do the job, so you'll need a half-decent video card.
I'm currently adding support for normal resolution FFR, which will massively improve the graphics. It'll require a high resolution or multiple monitors, and probably a fairly powerful machine. [I wonder if 3rd Style will come out soon and waste all my efforts...] EDIT: Some laptop video cards are awful - you need one with dedicated memory to run this kind of thing. If your laptop video card shares main memory then it might not work well for you. Otherwise your specs are fine. Last edited by MRichards; 08-28-2007 at 09:56 AM.. |

I don't have all the specs with me but I know it's an ATI Radeon Mobility card. I'll let you know how it runs tonight.
