Another topic I have seen posted on other forums.. what are some secrets about your current, or previous job(s) that only employees or yourself would know about?
few of mine: Walmart: -Loss prevention (security) leaves at around 10pm every night. so no one watches the cameras after 10pm - None of my overnight managers cared if I took food from off of the shelf and ate it. - Few of my managers sold prescription pills to other employees. - Managers didnt care if people were drunk/got drunk at work as long as they finished their work.Silver Dollar Restaurant: - When they need more salad at the salad bar.. they just grab handfuls of lettuce out of this giant bucket of lettuce.. dont eat the salad. (that aside.. the restaurant is actually very very sanitary.) - The waitresses do shit tons of cocaine in the bathrooms. thats all i can think of at the moment.. other jobs i had dont really have any interesting "secrets".

I'm younger than you and I've only had 3 jobs, nothing really interesting. But I worked at a Walmart too, and you'd be fired on the spot if you showed up drunk to work at the one I worked at. It's a really middle-to-upper class neighborhood, mostly full of 60+ who don't tolerate that stuff.
edit: At the moment I hold 2 jobs, both which I've had for less than a month. I'm a manager at a used car lot, and I also have a seasonal weekend job as guest services at OSU Beavers football games.

I worked at a local grocery store a year ago and often times employees would start and food fight in the warehouse. Never did the manager ever seem to notice it. I knew he was mad about tomatoes and bananes, though.

Wouldn't giving information about the kodak stuff to anyone publicly be illegal, since what if someone gets a job at kodak, or works with those machines can do whatever they want to them? Just curious.

Interesting.
FYI, we seriously don't use cats or dogs to make our Chinese food hahaha. I get to watch my parents prepare everything beforehand which is really neat. |

Teavana:
The sample cart in the front of the store is a scam. Employees are told to rush to your side and bring you into the store to try the other samples, where afterwords we'll attack you with info on why the tea you're drinking will save your life someday and we won't let you leave until you buy something or beg and scream to leave hah. Not really a secret, just a tip, never go in there. :P Darvin Furniture: The warehouse boys sleep in the back most of the time. They will take their sweet time to get your furniture. And a lot of the time if they see an issue with the pieces they won't say anything unless you find it. Inspect your furniture thoroughly before you take it home hehu~ Any ambulance service: If your emergency isn't really a life or death emergency, we grab food before we get to your location.

At the Walmart Whee I use to work everyone in the back would step over anything to get the merchandise they need to stock the shelves. This includes electronics(TVs only really). So never by TVs from that Walmart because chances are its been stepped on.

Boston Market:
- Don't waste food by saving some of the food from the night before. You have to pick chicken and put it in the freezer. If you drop some of the chicken in the trash sometimes the manager makes you pick it out and put it on the tray. These are used for pot pies, sandwiches etc. -Sometimes trades go on with burger king -More than half of the time we don't wash our hands. ALOT of stuff just can't think of it

Carrabba's:
lets see, wasnt given a break after working 11 straight hours. treat people like shit silverware is run through a dishwasher that has pieces of food in that that came off the silverware, so when it comes out and you polish it theres crusted food on most of it that we dont clean off the employees go into the fridge and eat from there. i grabbed so much cheese when i worked there. no gloves. there are mouse traps everywhere the menus are cleaned off with the rags we use to clean the tables. employees can throw up and not be sent home. warehouse nothing really... its a good job ![]()

There is a job i've worked in the past where this would prove true. . .
Satellite tv installing: purchasing hacked 'cards' that give out all channels free, PPV etc are a waste of time. There is software that blacks out sections of the country and re-checks card #'s to cards on the system. This happens in a tenth of a second and can't be detected unless you have one of these cards (which can go for $100 or more), at which point your service will end. Mining Industry: A lot of environmental damages are hidden/covered up. I know for a fact that on two occassions at a mine-site where I worked two employee deaths due to horsing around were masked under different circumstances to save face of the company. Slaughterman: The meat industry in australia is 348732843x better, cleaner and well-run than america. Nothing really to note there aside from the fact that almost NOTHING is wasted in the beef industry. Anyone seen that seafood highlight stuff in the deli at supermarkets. A lot of people run it off as 'crab meat'. It is that white 'meat' that usually has an orange tinge on one side to make it more seafood-y looking. It is actually cow stomach, tripe. Which is surprisingly good for you, just wouldn't sell as well i'd imagine. Milk powder/cheese factory: A lot of milk you buy on the shelves of your supermarket is in fact powedered milk. Much like a lot of bottled water is packaged tap water. There is a shit-load of additives added to the milk aswell prior to evapourating and solidifying. protip: full-cream milk is 97-98% fat free, skim milk is 98-99% fat free. Go marketing...

It's actually been written in the contract of two previous job that I'm not allowed to talk about them.
Another job I had, in ASDA (UK version of WalMart) was pretty dull tbh, nothing ever happened) |

Anybody that has worked in an office will know this:
Almost everybody is plotting and scheming against each other to get somebody fired. It's just like the freaking movies. |

Hannaford Warehouse:
-everyone would take things as they felt like it -we would intentionally break cases sometimes and take some of the product home or use it for lunch and stuff. -people would spit in the isles -when one of the crazier guys got fired he craped in a bag, set it in an isle and ran it over with his electric pallet jack and dragged it all across the warehouse. it had to be shut down for about an hour so sanitation could bleach the whole floor. Subway: -take subs every night -sleep in the back -do drugs in the back -most of the time people wouldnt wash their hands -steal whole packages of meats and drinks SuperShoes: -take shoes every night -sleep on the job

Back when I worked @ McDonald's:
Last I checked with a manager friend, the product cost of a Big Mac is approximately 40 cents. Now consider what you pay for it. Our store still posted consistently large surpluses last summer when, for managerial reasons, thousands of dollars worth of product (especially fries) was ''unaccounted for'' ( stolen by staff ). We don't wear gloves, ever, though to be fair gloves are less sanitary than hand washing unless gloves are changed after each individual product, which is completely unfeasible at McDicks. Either way, things like the meat patty are often touched multiple times in the process. Speaking of meat, it's only supposed to sit in the heat cabinet for 15 minutes. However, for a number of reasons, it can sit there for up to an hour, and lazy employees have been known to leave that shit sitting in there for 2+ hours, especially late at night, and still serve it to you. Same with chicken products. If your chicken nuggets ever feel a bit dry it's probably because they've been sitting around for 2 hours or so.
