So I was in a car crash.
Last night I was taking my friend home (I wasn't driving), and we were turning left onto the highway (we were in an old little Saturn), when this giant pickup truck slammed into the front part of our car. My best friend was sitting in the right passenger side of the car. He was half a second away from death. I was in the right side of the back seat. I was a second away from death. It's really humbling when something like that happens to you and all of your friends walk away uninjured. The car is completely totaled.
There's not really a point to this thread, other than for me to tell you guys, don't take what you have for granted. You never know when something as quick as a car crash might just end it. *shudders* Last edited by midnghtraver; 12-13-2011 at 03:49 PM.. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
im really glad you are all ok D: ive been in that situation myself.. like 6 years ago my mom was driving me to work.. and she wasnt paying attention to the road although she was driving fine.. in her lane and everything.. the speed limit was 45 mph.. the car driving towards us veered into our lane hitting us NEARLY head on. luckily we kinda bounced off of each other instead of hitting head on. the crash ripped 3 tires off of our truck, and nearly flipped. i had my hands on the roof of the truck waiting for it to tip. /my close call story. but yeah like i said.. im glad everyone is ok that was involved in your accident.
edit: true story the reason the guy was in our lane, was because he was getting road head. girl was sucking him when he hit us. he got out of his car with his pants down to his ankles. Last edited by m0de; 12-11-2011 at 10:48 PM.. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
I was actually in two pretty nasty car accidents back when. We probably shouldn't have all been able to walk away from it the way we did. We were really lucky. Neither accident was our fault, but I know what you mean. I have pictures somewhere, if I can find them I'll scan them and put them up with the stories.

Re: So I was in a car crash.
The vast amount of injuries and deaths attributed to car crashes as well as (in many cases) the most common reason for a crash - failure to yield right of way - make me shake my head. The greatest chance for me to die tomorrow when I leave for my Italian exam will be at the hands of stupidity. Derp..

Re: So I was in a car crash.
Thanks guys. I feel bad for Sarah (the driver) cause her car is completely totaled. and that's her only transportation to school and her two jobs.
She got lucky though by only getting a 3 point, 84 dollar ticket. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
I'm glad the only damage is to the car and not any person. I'd be sad to hear if you or her were injured or unable to walk away..
Not to say that the car being totaled is a good thing, i'm still really sorry to hear about that. Hopefully things work out in the end andsome form of restoration takes place in the near future. While we're on this topic, i may as well post my own story. I remember when i was 5 years old, sitting in the back of a Jeep 5-seater, both my parents in the front seats and my mom driving. We were on the road, it was early January, and the roads were icy (this is when i lived in Minnesota) . To make a long story short, we came up to a sharp turn.. My mom couldn't slow down fast enough, the car slid off the side of the road, flipping over a full rotation and then landing on its top, in a ditch. I dont know how my fragile child body survived, but.. My father and i made it out somehow.. i lost my mother a couple hours later. [trembles]

Re: So I was in a car crash.
I'm glad that everybody was okay. Hopefully your friend will find a way to get herself to school and work alright.
Reminds me of when my family drove up to Michigan about 4 years ago. There was a car changing lanes trying to get ahead of everybody and our driver (my mom's boyfriend) let them pass. A few minutes later a truck hit them at the intersection. The car flipped over, the driver flew out of the car and lost a leg. Don't know how the rest of the passengers were, but if we didn't let that car pass us it would have been us. That was the day that I decided I wanted to be a Paramedic. Life and its crazy twists, huh?

Re: So I was in a car crash.
Oh damn that's terrible... I'm glad you're okay. Take a breather for a while
Since everyone is posting their car wreck stories... I think I was 12 or 13 so this would have been at least five years ago now... anyway, my grandparents and I are on this side road turning onto highway 20 and it's a horrible blind corner. It's about 5pm so it's that time of the day where all the safe drivers have their lights on and all the idiots don't turn theirs on for another hour. We pull out onto the highway and get up to about 15 mph... then SMACK. Our rig spun around about 180 degrees but somehow it didn't topple over. We got hit by another car going about 70mph, and although our car got some serious damage, nobody in it was hurt. Buuuut... We were driving a big Land Rover Discovery II. The car that hit us was a little Honda Civic hatchback. You can guess how that turned out, but I'll tell you: the driver of the Civic is now paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of her life.

Re: So I was in a car crash.
Everyone and their crash stories makes me feel like a boss for being a proud pedestrian. lmao
Not to say that your stories are petty or anything. :S It must be pretty traumatic being on the brink of death. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
I drove into the ditch once...
Was on a road trip down to Toronto from Sudbury, and I was getting tired, asked my mom to switch drivers. There was a big rock-cut on my right, and there was a sign announcing a road ahead, so I decided I would turn there to switch. Next thing I know, the turning lane showed up, and was only like, 10-15 meters long, and I was going way too fast and I overshot the road. The ground was covered in gravel, so our car kinda slid on the road into the ditch on the right side, in the corner opposite the turning lane. A small tree stopped us from rolling a little bit further into a large boulder, which could have been disastrous. We had a trunk full of beer as well, and most of it broke from the impact. We gave the remaining beer bottles to the tow truck driver, as our thanks, when the police finally showed up, about 15 minutes later. I was so shaken up, I haven't drived much at all since. I'm in university, away from town anyways, so I don't have a reason to drive, or have a car though. Kinda sucked. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
Most serious car accident I've been in was when I was on a bicycle. Also know quite a few people who've been hit as pedestrians.

Re: So I was in a car crash.
About 3 years ago, I was about 5 feet from getting t-boned by an F-150 that ran a red light. I was driving a Ford Focus. He would have hit the driver side door.
It happened a few hours before I was "let in" FFYa. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
This was a month ago.
I was Driving a 2002 GMC jimmy, I had a friend with me and we were driving through a back lane when suddenly we got T-boned by a 5-tonne loaded with soil. We rolled twice and took out a fence, and then walked away completely unscathed. |

Re: So I was in a car crash.
Glad you're OK.
I've been in one car crash, December 2008, I was 24 weeks pregnant, too. So spent a lot of time in hospital because of it; it makes me very nervous to drive/be a passenger 3 years later. |
