Default FFR Multiplayer Tournament 2013: Sign-ups closed.

FFR Multiplayer Tournament

Heya! I'm a bit later than I wanted to be, but better late than never, right? Welcome to the FFR MP tournament for 2013! Let's cut the chase and get right to the details.

PLEASE READ THIS POST IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS.

I. TOURNAMENT DETAILS

This tournament will be in double-elimination format, with seeds based off of four chosen qualifiers (two for your division, and two more from the division above you) prior to divisional sign-ups being closed. Matches will be played in the Legacy Multiplayer, meaning users can play on the Legacy engine, or the R^3 engine. All matches will be best of three songs based off of raw score, with the lower seed picking first song, higher seed picking second song, and if necessary, a random number generator to pick the third song within a given division range. Songs cannot be picked more than once in a given round (therefore: a player cannot pick a song in the winner's bracket of round 1 and the loser's bracket of round 1 as well).

Seeds will be organized in a bracket (see II. TOURNAMENT BRACKET / DIVISIONS for more details) in a way that discourages sandbagging. Sign-ups will close on June 18th at 11PM SERVER TIME. Qualifiers will open on June 19th at 11PM SERVER TIME, and qualifiers will end on June 21st at 11PM SERVER TIME. The tournament will begin on June 23rd in the afternoon (time TBA).

II. TOURNAMENT BRACKET / DIVISIONS

- There will be six divisions in this tournament, with the highest division number containing the strongest players and the lowest division number containing the weakest players. Divisions may be consolidated into five or less divisions depending on a number of factors:

- a.) overall sign-ups
- b.) divisional clustering (that is: if we lack a particular division in terms of players, those players will be shifted up or down depending on their standing in the affected division)
- c.) bracket sizes

Brackets will work as such:

Note: common tournament terminology exists in this post. If any of the jargon is confusing for any reason, please post in the thread and someone (or I) will more than likely respond to you with the correct answer.

Winner's Bracket:
seed n (where n = number of players in a given division) will playthe lowest seed possible based off of the bracket structure. Remember: the lower the seed, the better you are ranked. If the number of players in a given division is not divisible by 2, a bye will be given to the lowest seed available.

EVEN NUMBER:
1 | 16
2 | 15
3 | 14
4 | 13
(etc)

ODD NUMBER:
1 | (bye)
2 | 15
3 | 14
4 | 13
(etc)

Loser's Bracket: if a player loses a match in the winner's bracket, they are thrown into the loser's bracket, where the ORDER of the initial seeds present in the loser's bracket will dictate the match-ups. For example, if seeds 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 all lose their first match, then we would couple them based on their order in the loser's bracket. This is done by organizing the seeds in sequential order to give them their loser's bracket seed:

Loser's bracket seed 1: 9
Loser's bracket seed 2: 10
Loser's bracket seed 3: 11
Loser's bracket seed 4: 12
Loser's bracket seed 5: 13
Loser's bracket seed 6: 14
Loser's bracket seed 7: 15
Loser's bracket seed 8: 16
=====================

LB1 | LB8
LB2 | LB7
LB3 | LB6
LB4 | LB5

Note: In the event of an odd number bracket size, the lowest LB seed will receive a bye.

If you don't understand this, don't worry! We (me, available Event Staff, and MP Plaza Moderators) will help you right along.

SEMI-FINAL ROUND INFORMATION
If the semi-final round for any division contains three people, those three people will engage in a round robin structure to determine the final two. This semi-final situation will progress as such:

- 1 v 2 (best of 5)
- 1 v 3 (best of 5)
- 2 v 3 (best of 5)

If matches result in a three way tie, the round robin structure will play in sudden-death structure until a given player loses to the other two players.

Brackets will be handled in Google Docs, which I will create later in the week. Again, if any of this confuses you, don't be alarmed. You won't have to worry about anything that goes on, because I will be handling the spreadsheet updating.

III. TOURNAMENT ARBITRATION/MEDIATION

If in a match, a player is not ready to play their song, they are entitled to one (1) restart per round (note: this includes one winner's bracket, or a winner AND loser bracket pairing, as they occur within a round). Restarts must be used at the start of a song in such a way where it will not be considered to jeopardize an outcome. Reasons for a restart include improper offsetting, incorrect key-setups, or a lack of preparedness for the first step of a given song. The use of a restart will nullify a loss, but remember, it can only be used once in a match.

If a player disconnects from their match mid-song with no notification, they will have five minutes from the disconnection time to return to their respective seat in the room, otherwise, they will be disqualified from the tournament.
(More may be added to this a bit later pending player concerns.)

IV. TOURNAMENT RULES / INFORMATION

Players must have at least 500 games to enter this tournament, spanning over 100 fully played songs. I will be checking these, so don’t think you can get away with this!

NO CHEATING. Disconnection of a MP match is incredibly disrespectful, and will be grounds for immediate disqualification unless it is accidental (see TOURNAMENT ARBITRATION/MEDIATION).

Multiplayer etiquette is very important for this event. Spectating of matches is greatly encouraged, but if you are a spectator, DO NOT SPEAK WHEN A MATCH IS IN PROGRESS. Legacy users will suffer greatly. Speaking mid-match will not be tolerated and will be grounds for discipline.

Disrespectful behavior inside of the MP lobby will NOT be tolerated. While you might be playing inside of the Multiplayer Lobby, you are entering a site event, which means I am responsible for anything you guys may or may not do.

I will have assistance in this tournament from the two Multiplayer Plaza moderators, as well as the some of the Event Staff. Here are all of the people that will be overseeing this event to make sure it goes successful:

TC_Halogen
Untimely Friction
Mourningfall
YoshL
foxfire667
(waiting on confirmation from one other person)

They will be supervising rooms and ensuring that the tournament goes smoothly. Do not argue their decisions.

Improper behavior inside of the MP lobby will result in forum-based infractions and banishment, depending on the severity. This event is something that a lot of people have been looking forward to, and all I ask is that you guys behave yourself. Be civil, have a good time, and enjoy the fact you are responsible for making MP lively during the tournament!

V. CREDIT PRIZES

Being that this is an official event, credit donations will not be needed / accepted. Save them for other user tournaments and donate to them! I will use a defined amount depending on how large this tournament ends up. Those of you that actually compete will receive a prize, and the prizes will extend upward, with semi-finalists and better receiving substantially larger prizes. Tokens may be given out, but again, it is entirely dependent on the participation.

That’s all I have for now! I will gladly add more information when it is needed!
