I think this might be the first Official Tourny I've been in where I'll make it to Round 2.. I know it's the first time I've AAA'd any of the Tourny songs during the round though.

I've always wondered, what the hell are white notes anyways? Just some way to decolorize a note so you can't tell what type it is or something?

As far as I know, it's done mainly for color / emphasizing parts or a part of a song. Sometimes it's great... and sometimes it can be ridiculously painful. I'd say it's a matter of preference.

They are usually used to accent certain instruments or unusual sounds in a song. Overdone, it really detracts from the file. Since FFR doesn't have holds, this is what simfile authors have to do to accent notes.

when used conservatively and in moderation, it serves an excellent purpose. when used excessively, it becomes incredibly annoying and to the point where the usage becomes redundant and pointless

take it from one of the guys that made colour theory a present day stepping trend along side mochers, poopet, and I guess kil who started it all. I experimented with several files until I figured out what was comfortable for myself and the average player in terms of the colour usage, which ended up with me making several files with excessively abused colours that are just plain annoying to play and read

in the case with FFR though, it probably should be used much more conservatively than compared to stepmaniers, taking into the account the demographic of players that are used to snapped, fixed note timings that aren't random ass colours that have no correlation to timing intervals whatsoever. with stepmania though, it's pretty much do whatever the fuck you want to
