Challenge #61

This one will be an easy week.

Tier 1 - Play 3 Songs by the same stepartist
Tier 2 - Play 6 Songs by the same stepartist
Tier 3 - Play 10 Songs by the same stepartist

Use of alternate engine songs is encouraged for this, I realize there are only a semi-small group of step artists with 10 or more songs in game. I'll even allow stepmania scores for this challenge if you are 100% sure they are all the same step artist.

Token - Write a paragraph (at least 6 sentences) about that step artist's work. Note anything you found in common between the chosen songs, or anything you noticed did not come up in that person's stepfiles. Commentary is to be about how they step, not about the person themselves. I will judge whether or not the paragraph is token worthy for this challenge.

the combination of the percent progress and the combo from the beginning of the song give away how many notes there are with just some simple math

On the plus side, newer players still had a chance to finish the screenshot clues because of that. OWA mentioned it pretty quickly, but I left it in there. It was pretty straightforward.

I overall enjoyed it. That being said some of the screenshot ones are incredibly unfair if it weren't for the percentage trick, where as others are easy enough to do a bit of guess work and figure out. To be kept in mind for the future.

Write a dissertation.

Some peoples charting styles are incredibly consistent which inclines in depth study to how variation is achieved that can definitely span more than a few paragraphs.

BRUTE FORCE - 2.9x upscroll/default skin for comparison - use arrow colours to discern matching pattern sections
1. ok
2. knew this one
3. search for "blue" and pick the ones that match the amount of notes approximately; use song preview
4. from the last screenshot I kinda guessed it was a really hard file (100+)
5. sort difficulty ascending
6. took me way too long(not a public file); found using isolation start (733) and filters (arrow count) as well as youtube
7. just search for bmah stepartist and go to the bottom of the page
8 - 10: use r3 filters (max nps and artist/stepartist) and then search the file on the site to compare the note graph
bonus: just went reverse(difficulty) until I found it (didn't take that long); also found using isolation start (1139) and filters (arrow count)

And I do believe one of the earlier token challenges involved writing something before. It should be real actively short and sweet. Shouldn't be hard to do after getting the regular tier packs.

quality pack

This stepartist's files tends to follow a lower density (streams/jumpstreams) - higher density (stairs) pattern depending on how intense the music is.
The notes match the music well and the mapping style is quite straightfoward.
Minimal jack use which is appropriate considering the choice of music and lower difficulty.
But even on higher difficulties jacks are scarce.
Tends to use rolls when there are more drums in the music on harder difficulties.
Tends to not use many trills.

the stepartist i chose was ~Zero~. he likes to step songs that are electro/trance/dance type stuff. most of his work was done in 2007 except for one in 2008 and one in 2011. the difficulty of his charts tend to range from 30-50 with outliers being 8 and 69. He tends to step stream like stuff where arrows don't repeat. there are little to no jacks. the majority of his notes are single notes and when there is a double it is because of a significant accent or change in the music. there are no hands or quads (except for his chart from 2011) probably mostly because of the era he stepped in where you weren't allowed to do more than two notes at once if it wasn't 'fmo' or higher difficulty. his arrows tend to go to the instrumentals. the steps are artful and elegant. get the idea that to make charts like this you mentally dance in your mind to the arrows.

(All percentages as a fraction of total note count of the song)
