Suggestion: Have songs unlocked automatically if you charted them

I really love the fact that FFR contains songs that have to be unlocked. It's a great way to motivate players to push themselves and skill boost. However, I feel like as a simfile author it is strange to have to unlock my own songs in the game. Sometimes I don't have the necessary skills to unlock my own songs, and so I either have to get someone else to play on my account to help with the problematic unlock, or to play on someone else's account to get temporary access to them. I'm too old to get good -- all I want to to go down memory lane. Here's an example:



Wouldn't it make sense to have this song unlocked just on the basis of me having created it?

I agree in principle although I can imagine some situations where it might be unfair. Say there was a very short file that would be farmable for lower level players by mashing through it. If this file was gated behind a hard unlock requirement then the stepauthor would be able to farm it and other players in that skill range would not have access to it.

I guess it's for the game managers to decide how many tokens there are that might lead to that situation (probably few or none) and how much we care about it. Maybe they could be unlocked for the stepauthor on a case-by-case basis.

Nowadays stepartists have the option to not allow their charts to be tokens when submitting them, so this is not really relevant moving forward; it'd just be for past releases which I would assume only concerns a very small % of stepartists.

Personally I feel like if the token requirement that was previously forced without the stepartist's agreement is not too "exclusive", which the one you point out isn't, then unlocking it shouldn't be a big deal. Again, this is very unlikely to happen much anyways.

I'm pretty indifferent to this. If you just wanted to play the chart, the fileloader exists now and presumably as the stepartist you still have the file. No ranks, but still a way to play.

If this were to be an official thing, I'd rather it be optional. I'd still want the challenge of actually unlocking certain tokens, especially if I had made something like Scarhand.

The thing is, I'm all for token charts nowadays. If I submit a new song, I'll allow it to be a token if I could play it normally.

That's true, but as you mention lack of rank is annoying. It would be nice to be able to score on all my files.

Imho this is not really a fair ask. You want to score on your files, therefore there's a competitive aspect to what you're looking for (otherwise you'd just play the charts in the file loader), but you also want to get the free token unlock that others compete for.

For the sake of fairness, these should be mutually exclusive. You have to pick between either only allowing token requirements on your future charts that you can actually do, or release your charts without allowing token release. There's no reason to auto reward stepartists with tokens they couldn't otherwise achieve; some people put a lot of work to earn those tokens.

I wonder if a compromise could be made, e.g. allow the stepartists to play any of their songs with rank without automatically giving the respective token away freely.

I had a brief chat with Opkiller who explained to me how tokens are created in this modern age. Apparently all token reqs are validated with the stepartist before being put in place, which seems fair to me. It gives the stepartist the opportunity to reject reqs that might be too hard for them.

In this case, if this only applies to old tokens, my case could probably be solved simply by giving me access to S [Y.W]. I realize that's the only song I truly struggle to unlock.
