They produce heat from oxidation of iron.
Exothermic reaction => heat 4Fe(s) + 3O2(g) -> 2Fe2O3(s) EDIT- http://www.chemistryislife.com/the-c...of-hand-warmer Apparently they use activated carbon to distribute the heat. Cool.

Wow, that's really cool.
While i'm thinking about it, could those be beneficial to playing FFR/SM? Like, could they heat/loosen up the muscles to possibly allow for better play? I had gotten a k120 recently and I didn't like it for FFR. It currently resides in my closet. usb walmart keyboard 4 lyfe
