I know that many music game enthusiasts would also like to take up an instrument, but find it hard to find the discipline to practice regularly. A program that turns piano study into something resembling a music game is now being developed under the name 'The Augmented Piano'. Something to look forward to!

Pick an instrument
Buy it. You'd be surprised how much motivation you get from spending money |

Especially something that's like $300+ as most decent music equipment is.

Please, my flute was almost $800. That's cheap as hell.
Don't buy a $200 guitar or keyboard either. |

So it's synthesia projected onto a grand piano? Well we have a stand-up one, so I don't know if it'll work. The cats'll have lots of fun with it though.

Nope, synthesia works on a computer keyboard, augmented piano works on a piano. The whole point is that you get to play an instrument and have that rhythm game feeling at the same time. Of course, this should just help with motivating you; it's not to be substituted for traditional methods to learn to play the piano.
I have a 7000 euro piano at home. A good instrument certainly motivates to play more. I started out with a cheap keyboard, then went to a second-hand study piano and then bought the 7000 euro piano. Don't invest in something like that until you have reached a certain level and are relatively certain you'll be playing for a long time to come. (Sadly, since I'm doing my PhD abroad, I have to make do with a digital piano, which, even though it's not a bad one, can never live up to the real thing)

It's kinda neat, but it's still just synthesia with a projector. I didn't find it any more intuitive than playing synthesia normally on a vertical screen when I tried that.

Looks really cool honestly
not sure why they label it augmented though. Like they just picked a random theory term for brand name |
