Done. I've already listened to it a few years ago, a bit underwhelming but there was some goods songs (Godspeed, The White Flash, Sucker Pin).

Day Twelve - December 12th, 2013
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ![]() Lumière Obscure by Lemongrass (recommended by L.B.D.D.) 1. Dreams Are Real 2. Comme Toujours 3. Take a While 4. Underwater 5. The Bell 6. Flying Objects 7. Fine Time 8. La Fille Avec Cheveux Oranges 9. What a Night 10. Dream Your Dream Awake 11. Once Along the Way (Goodbye Mr. Grimmenstein) Lemongrass (also known as Roland Voss) is a German music producer, having worked under the label Mole Listening Pearls before creating Lemongrassmusic, his own label. His music can be describe as downtempo with trip hop, nu jazz and dnb influences. Lumière Obscure was his second album, released in 1999. It's soft, smooth and spacey. There's a good amount of diversity on this record, starting slowly with Dreams Are Real and Comme Toujours. Incorporating more complex drum beats on Take a While and tribal elements on Underwater. A bit of spoken words on The Bell with some touches of piano. Flying Objects and Fine Time are too long even if they have some interesting moments, they could be better shortened. La Fille Avec Cheveux Oranges gets progressively better and evolves into a jazzy-lounge song. Once Along the Way and Dream Your Dream Awake have a slower bpm, they drag a bit but are mostly very nice. The beats are what makes the music substantial. They are complex, but non-agressive. They have a good balance and they blend well with everything else. You don't feel submerged so you can't really lost track of what's going on. I found nothing to hate on this album, it's solid, too long at times, but I didn't fell in love with it. My rating : ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

Then there are the actual weird albums like The Pod and Here Comes The Indian. EDIT: Also checked RYM. wtf man where's all the lo-fi avant-garde stoner noise pop? That's like 8 of my SHORTLIST recommendations gone. Based on your ratings for folk music, I predict a 6 for All Hail West Texas if you get past the heady voice/lo-fi cassette tape quality.

Had to remove a lot of my past ratings on RYM btw (went from 2500 to about 500), so most of my remaining ratings are what I have left in my iTunes pratically. Quote:

Manic Bloom / Manic Bloom Nevermore / This Godless Endeavor Trivium / Shogun 無力P / Eschatology If I had to pick one, it'd be a tie between the bolded ones.

Day Thirteen - December 13th, 2013
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ![]() Greatest Hits by Eilert Pilarm (recommended by omega_grunt666) 1. Jailhouse Rock 2. Are You Lonesome Tonight 3. Love Me Tender 4. Blue Suede Shoes 5. It's Now or Never 6. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) 7. Teddy Bear (Let Me Be Your) 8. There Goes My Everything 9. A Fool Such as I 10. Release Me 11. One Night 12. Farther Along 13. She's Not You 14. Blue Christmas 15. Take My Hand Precious Lord 16. Long Tall Sally 17. All Shook Up 18. Love Me 19. Heartbreak Hotel 20. I Love You Because 21. Little Cabin Home on the Hill 22. Kiss Me Quick 23. Jailhouse Rock (E-Funk Mix) 24. Mega Mix Eilert Pilarm is a Swedish Elvis impersonator. He made over 600 live shows over 10 years, starting around 1992 and stopping in 2003. He's notably featured in Songs in the Key of Z, a book about outsider music from Irwin Chusid. You can read a little more about him from this blog entry. If I was rating albums based on how much they made me laugh, this would be 5 stars easily. It's painful and terrible in every possible way. The guy can't sing a note. He's out of tune and out of time. No sense of rhythm whatsoever. His accent doesn't help either (I really thought he was singing in Swedish in the beginning), so it makes thing funnier. The instruments are completely unprocessed and sound extremely cheep. There's literally nothing "good" on this record. He's damn funny though. I'll give him that. But 24 songs ? Yes I went through all and after the first 5-6, it isn't funny anymore, it becomes just mediocre and painful. Yet, what I like about this kind of music is how it doesn't take itself seriously. Eilert Pilarm knew damn well that he wasn't a great singer, he just had fun doing this. My rating : ★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (2 stars because it made me laugh)

I was hoping that would show up around christmas,
A bit of a troll pick yeah, most of the stuff I probably would have listed in my top 10 has already been posted by other people so I chose something slightly different. I think I have a higher tolerance for bad/parody than you though, too much time browsing /r/crappymusic I guess. Glad you got a laugh out of it though. |

Hey thanks for the review. It was done wayy faster than I thought you would get to it. Bonus points for that!
You pretty much summed up The Cult's albums when you said they were repetitive. Listening to a whole album may be much, but put a few of these songs in a rock playlist and they are great. They have many albums, but I picked this one for you to review as they had the most songs I like in there. I also like "She Sells Sanctuary", but too bad it's in another album. As for a whole album working together, I feel that Pink Floyd (off the top of my head) pulled it off better. The Cult works best when playing their songs separately. |
