I have no idea how serious this thread needs to be, but I'll answer honestly that my middle name is Pelar.

....I guess it has been years since I've told the story about it, too.

The story gets confusing but after 20 years trying to figure out what happen I have a pretty good idea

Dad was watching TV high as a Beatle at a friends house (the kind you cheat on your wife with) when this old soap called As the world turns comes on. One of the characters that appeared semi-regular was named Pilar. For whatever reason Dad fell in loved with the name and decided that no matter what, he had to name his daughter that. He rushed back to mother after presumably sobering up and showing to tell her he had just thought of the best name in Adam's line of children.

Mom countered that the name a man's. Dad declared that it was not.

Being pre-internet, they decided that a librarian would surely know the answer (because people who work desk jobs around books must be smart or something). The answer they got was that it was a bi-gender name and could be used for anyone. (It is very, VERY important that I note this is very much NOT the case. Pilar is a Spanish, fermale-only name meaning Pillar [of strength] or [Mary of the] Pillar) so whenever I was born they named me Alexander P--

Oh wait, they had me and then realized at the hospital tahat they never did look up how to spell the damn thing . So mother made it up on the fly and it was spelled Pelár. Of course the SS card just has Pelar so that is how I spell it to this day.

So yeah, my name is literally not just a girl's name, but misspelled. GG Dad, you ****king prick. To be fair, with that spelling it isn't really a girls name (I know of NO ONE with that name) and Mom gave me an out when she started calling me Lar from an early age. I could honestly just stick with Alex or Lar all day and never even have to deal with the story, but in my old age I actually find it hysterical---like, that there is the reason why I should just enjoy life and not even worry about it; I was never meant to be a serious person in the first place rofl.
