I want to get in shape. I'm way too socially self-conscious to go to the gym (and believe me, I've tried, tried, tried, tried, tried) and figure I can at least have some fun building up stamina and burning some calories doing some daily DDR sessions playing nothing but hard shit until I lose enough weight to be able to do other exercises.
So, that being said, metal pad's out of the question (I gave my last one to Halogen) -- as I'd be causing a shitload of noise, so I'll probably have to settle for the soft, thick foam pad or something. What would you guys recommend? Which pads? Which games? |

I don't know about soft pads but as for games just get a ps2->USB and download all the DDR packs itg packs as well as mungyodance and the rest of the fully charted or partially charted packs that are at the level play you want/can do

Oh cool. People might hate on me for this (no idea what people consider the "amazing" DDR games in general) but the DDR I have is Supernova 2 (PS2) and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Has some songs from other versions included in it (Eternus is actually on here wtfff) and you can actually edit the songs that they have into your own chart if you want something harder or whatever or something. Also thoroughly enjoyed ITG1 if you're into that.
No idea what to suggest for pads, just don't get the flimsy one from Gamestop at least. Edit: Carlos' idea is amazing

I will probably do just that. Thanks!
However I still need to figure out a good pad. ARE there any metal pads that are quiet? Can anyone recommend anything? |

Assuming you're still in an apartment or whatever I would imagine that even soft pads would be too loud, my dad was always complaining about mine >.> (Apartments definitely quieter than just a house but still, you're gonna be hitting that thing pretty hard)

the biggest problem i've found was that without like, the weight of a metal pad, (and even on a cf that i have, on carpet), it'll slide like crazy by itself. a pad with foam inserts does well, and feels well. Back in high school, a friend of mine had one of those pads with inserts that made the arrows stick up a little further than the other panels, making it a lot easier to play even with slidage

Luckily I don't have carpet in my apartment so that is hopefully not an issue (it's all pretty much your typical parquet wood flooring that comes in many apts here).
The pad with foam insert was what I was wondering, since it's pretty quiet to play on barefoot. Only concern is if I'm too heavy and my stomping pisses off the person underneath me. Wayward Vagabond: Wow, that would be fantastic. O.O I hope that isn't too much effort? |

its all about how you step on the pad that matters really. when i was playing with my foam pad in my apartment you could hardly hear a damn thing and i was 280 pounds at the time.
i was also playing and passing DDR 9's and 10's

Which foam pad did you use?
Also I just found Precision Dance Pads -- anyone have experience with these? http://www.precisiondancepads.com/index.php? |

Maybe I'll get both? Omega RX pad and the foam pad -- apparently both can be used barefoot and both are relatively quiet. I just hope it's not my STOMPING that's the problem, eek. I'm like an elephant in a stampede when I do anything other than walk.

Duuuuude I was just coming to this forum to ask about those pads lol. Buddy of mine says that Stepmania.com and other random sources give it a thumbs up over the 7 months they've been out. The 9-panel one is also pretty cheap considering it's metal and nine-freakin'-panels. If you get it, tell us how good it us

Shit was fun yo (Although Gpop makes great files and Lunatic Dance was a great pack all around. His Vocaloid one is also killer IMO) Last edited by MixMasterLar; 07-29-2013 at 12:28 PM.. i personally know that some people have lost a lot of weight (in a good way) through enjoying games like ddr
however, for it to have any effect you must be dedicated to the game and push yourself a couple hours a day from what i've heard .. i still think you should go to the gym! mustering up self confidence i believe is the #1 step to changing your body

I'll go to the gym eventually, but right now it's just not going to work out for me. i want to do weightlifting but i lack strength and can barely (i.e. can't) handle my own bodyweight. even bodyweight squats are hard for me to do too many of... so I need to shed off some weight so I can move around a little lighter. |

Chiming in here:
http://divinelegy.com/?portal=simfiles - all Dance Dance Revolution packs under "Dance Dance Revolution" - any pad pack that has been released by some sort of community member under "--Community Files--" ...go berserk. There's more than enough for you. Just stay away from things like SPEEDCORE/Tachyon/Disbalance packs, lol. You might be able to get away with the Pendulum packs, since they're all fully stepped -- however, the easy difficulty files for most of them are at least 9s, haha. |
