Suggestion: The default scroll speed for the engines new players start to play on should be increased to 1.25x-1.4x or the 1.0x C mod should be upped to those equivalent values since the current 1.0x (which is like C300 or something) is pretty slow even for a beginner. Of all the users I've referred to this game, I've told them to start at 1.25x and none have complained about the speed at that point. The main issue I see is that when I tell them to do so, they reply with "I don't want the song to be 1.25x harder/faster" thinking that speedmod is like a rate increase rather than a scroll speed increase. I think increasing the speedmod as a default would encourage people to get more into the game by not making the game so painfully slow.
At least require a brief tutorial on how the settings menu works ???? Discuss.

Damn, this would be such a good idea. People would be overall better at this game by starting them out at a faster speed mod (1.25x) instead of starting them out at x1. I also agree on the "brief tutorial of how the menu works", it's tiring to have to teach a newbie how to use the menu in multiplayer over and over again. This is an overall great idea, and I support it.

I don't agree with forcing the tutorial on someone, but an optional one would be very nice. I also think upping the speedmod a bit, since most people aren't like Haku and think 1-1.2x is pretty slow.

An optional one already exists here:

I've told everyone I've referred to start at 1.5x
I never saw any reason to start lower than that <_<

I've always been a 1x player ever since I started more than half a year ago. I suppose it's something I just get used to over time, but after reading this thread I thought I might play for a bit on 1.5x and this happened
[Mario Mix For Piano - 83-720-7-96-97 84c - not passing] [Mario Mix For Piano - 65-797-13-73-71 127c] I'm seriously not trying to hit goods on purpose. Maybe it's just that I've got used to 1x but I find that the arrows come unnaturally fast and I can't read the chart in time and when the rolls and fast bits come along I simply can't read them at all. My best on 1x speed is 25-5-0-0. Any help, or is my destiny to be a 1x player forever?

Force yourself to play 2.0x for one day, you won't be able to keep up at all, but you may be able to play 1.5x after that. It's really just visual adaptation.
I have the same issue as you tbh, it's just not as bad.. |

When I used to play, I would have to play according to how fast I could detect at that moment.
Ex: start at 1.75 multiple charts later 1.75 begins to feel a bit slow move up to 1.85 same thing happens move up to 2.0 feels comfortable few rounds later 2.0 feels to fast, move down to 1.85. But starting at 1.0x is always bad. (fact) +1 for atleast 1.25x 1.0x usually confuses a newbie and often times vets on account for the massive amount of arrows being displayed at once. Also, when the distance between arrows are large enough to fit a truck through one's focus is easily diverged. |

I concur. 1.25 would probably be the best; slower, however, can be good for people who don't play many video games at all, but that's hardly our target audience here.
