I can't play that song until the offset is fixed. It messes me up too much...

This is incredibly selfish. Maybe we should have an intentional outage of higher level files and cater only toward the slightly adept keysmashers and the casual players.
Quote:
There are 142 files that are rated 1-10. 35 of these files are terrible legacy files which are more than likely problematic for learning as they don't have consistent step patterns that make them worthy of playing. In addition to this, there are 20 skill tokens that won't be accessible immediately. Finally, there are 9 purchased songs; this is problematic for people just starting the game. 64/142 of these files are either inaccessible, or terrible choices for a player. In addition to this, the sync of the remaining files can't be guaranteed considering how old they are, and casual/new players probably won't understand the offset function, nor will they care to use it. Here's something else that I feel is very important to bring up: out of 142 of the files that are rated 10 or lower, only 9 have been released/stepped this year, and we likely won't see anymore due to the year coming to a close. That is a -serious- problem; how are players supposed to progress if there's nothing new for them to learn at this level? Last edited by TC_Halogen; 12-24-2012 at 08:49 PM.. |

Don't neglect anything. Sure judges are a lot more picky on easier charts, if anything that should be seen as a challenge. Step something relaxing for once. Someone go step some ballads damn it. Start with that one! |

One more thing that I didn't have the chance to mention:

People can continue to deny the fact that there's a lack of easy files, but statistics show it -everywhere-. The fact that ~14% of the files released in the entire year are less than an old-scale 8 in difficulty should make it very clear that there simply is no attention paid to lower level files. Simfile artists (and I'll include myself in here) need to put more of an effort into sending easier files. |

Here are a few problems with the current system that make it harder to submit easy files:
- As you said, judges don't want someone to get a simfile author title from just one easy file. - Also, there is a bias against easy files because people think it'll prevent a harder file for the same song from getting ingame. - There are regular tournaments that require a lot of relatively difficult files, but no easy files, so there's often a push for more hard files, but never a corresponding push for more easy files. - The 10 difficulties at the bottom cover a too large difficulty range, so it feels like there are already plenty of charts there (compare # of files of difficulty 5 to # of files of difficulty 95). - We've already seen that judges seem to like Silvuh-style easy charts more than legitimately understepped files. So that means you probably shouldn't step understepped files for FFR, because they probably won't get good reviews. - The biggest one: Batches are very far apart and everyone but the top stepauthors has a very restrictive submission cap. So if you submit an easy file, it takes the place of a potential hard file which will get you more respect and notice, possibly be more likely to get in, and be more fun for your friends.

My Blackout file not even making Top 4 shows a clear bias against easy files, even if the context was in a file tournament. I can definitely see the point about legitimately understepped files not getting good reviews.
I'll consider sending it as a light version, but I still did not like how an opportunity for a solid easier file was ruined because of a forced view of a song *needing* to take advantage of layering and techniques used in higher level files, including bursts. |

let's not address a problem but rather antagonize the person (another simfile judge, rather) who is apparent of the problem and has intentions of fixing it (p.s. I have two < 20-difficulty files ready for next batch).

Haven't you realized this is an endemic problem to FFR culture? It's happened to me many times already, and let's just say... you've been on both ends of it.

i really hate it when i find out an awesome song got released and its a damn 65+. between work and my 2 kids, i dont have enough time to sit down and play and work on my game.
just because you can put the arrows in there doesnt really mean you should. sure,there a lot of files that could be improved on, and we generally see a harder v2 of it. I cant remember the last time i saw a v2 that was lighter. also, i went through the public song list and added up each difficulty and came to this: 1- 5 2- 15 3- 12 4- 12 5- 13 6- 13 7- 13 8- 16 9- 9 10 -12 11 -14 12 -10 13 -10 14 -7 15 -9 16- 7 17- 10 18- 12 19- 9 20- 14 21- 12 22- 12 23- 11 24- 8 25- 10 26- 15 27- 15 28- 15 29- 16 30- 11 31- 9 32- 8 33- 12 34- 16 35- 18 36- 10 37- 18 38- 14 39- 18 40- 15 41- 17 42- 18 43- 13 44- 10 45- 6 46- 25 47- 19 48- 21 614 total songs 49- 27 50- 22 51- 29 52- 19 53- 17 54- 18 55- 17 56- 18 57- 14 58- 19 59- 21 60- 22 61- 33 62- 23 63- 31 64- 31 65- 19 66- 17 67- 17 68- 15 69- 17 70- 13 71- 19 72- 13 73- 16 74- 13 75- 10 76- 11 77- 11 78- 6 79- 7 80- 11 81- 6 82- 6 83- 9 84- 9 85- 9 86- 4 87- 6 88- 4 89- 4 90- 4 91- 2 92- 2 93- 1 94- 0 95- 1 96- 1 644 total songs

I personally feel we should release files in all difficulty ranges during normal releases, but these special events should have mostly hard files. Let's be honest, the only people sitting around during Christmas waiting for more files are pretty good at this game. Yes, I know there are exceptions... but still.
