Incorrect generalization. I step much below my level (mostly 40-70, although back in the day I went way lower) and most of my files receiving praise, plus I enjoy playing files below my level the most, more narrow in the 50-65 threshold.

Perhaps you need to work on song choice? Perhaps people don't enjoy the way you step or just ignore the "haters", although you must be doing something wrong for people hate on you in the first place.
(then again there are people who just blindly hate things... no names mentioned lmfao)

it was because these files had to be cleared from the queue as they aren't really suitable tourney files. there's going to be plenty of easy files released in the tournament so relax

There an ETA when the song will have it's sync fixed?

I would love to play it without it going severely off sync as I play, heh.

The issue with stepping easier files and being bitched at is because people get the wrong idea when stepping easy files. They think easy files means easy and super boring song where there's only one note of music every second (see almost any silvuh simfile)

This is not the way to step an easy file. That would put out a shit file because its a shit song. Make a simfile for a song that is actually interesting and has good music but make a super easy chart for it.

Too bad the issue with that, is that the song would be "wasted" at that point as FFR only really lets in one version of a song per year, so you would still be bitched at for stepping such a great song to be an easy simfile

So it's really a lose-lose situation when stepping easy stuff.

I've got no problem restepping a bunch of my simfiles or other FFR songs into "Light" or easy charts. I've neglected making easier simfiles over the years also

The issue I see with the game isn't that there are tons of easy songs to blow through if you want average rank, its that all the easy songs sound like shit and it doesn't keep someone entertained at all when playing the file. It doesn't really matter if the chart is easy or not until it gets to the 1-10 difficulty range (out of 100) for it to be actually boring

I would love easier songs. I was going for the 50% FC token, but with all these harder songs coming out every day it's not going to happen.

There is a total of 1261 total songs public.

You need 631 FC's to get there. And let me tell you, there is definitely enough songs up to the VC difficulty (1-13 Scale) that you can Full Combo to get that 50%.

There is a SHIT ton of easy files already in game as is. There really isn't that many songs for my range which is 77-90 that are in game whatsoever.

Stop complaining and go play the 800-900 songs that are vc and lower.

Bloop. My two cents to some of the things we discussed here.

Granted. My generalization is false since there are many stepartists, including yourself and myself, who step below their skill level. I should make myself a bit clear and say that I am referring to files with difficulty < 7 (~ < 40). Maybe my song choices are a bit lacking and somewhat unsatisfying to the general group, but the main intention for me is to balance out the "classical" genre with the typical music we hear nowadays (IDM, breakcore, anime, etc.). Maybe piano files isn't the way to go, and maybe I should step more upbeat files, but I suppose this is a community engine and it should cater what the "majority" of the active group enjoys.

It's sad that I have a friend who doesn't play anymore because it didn't cater her music interests and the game is not as enjoyable since all she heard was the same music over and over again and the newer files were too hard.

This would be true if the starting difficulty for D1 in the official was actually equivalent to difficulty 1-5. Unfortunately, it has to begin with difficulty ~40, which can be very intimidating and discouraging to D1 players.

True. It is also the fact that music that are actually suitable for easier files is generally considered "slow" and not "interesting" to the active part of the community. I step easier files at a minimum so that I can contribute something interesting for the active voice and cater for starting players simultaneously.

It's sad that many people nowadays consider ~40-60 (7-10's) easy. It clearly shows how biased we are. I had the hardest time FCing a ~40 when I was a starting player. It's not as easy for a starting player to FC even songs like Excite Bike. Just because there is a huge influx of easier files currently on the engine doesn't mean we can't step easier files anymore. It would be nice to see an easier file be released more than once in an occasion.

This is a bad assumption though, because you are making an assumption that VC files are "easy", when I guarantee you that a file past 17 in difficulty will be problematic for the users that aren't forum-goers (i.e. casual players). Casual players probably struggle to just handle 8th notes, let alone the other numerous patterns that you see once you simply push past old-scale 7s in difficulty.

I'd feel much more comfortable saying that an easy file is an old-scale 5 or lower, where the charts don't pose more than 8th notes, or a few slower 16ths. Considering that the old scale was out of 13 (and the files rated 13 can be counted on your hands and toes), there really should be a more even distribution of files that are 7 or lower. If we cut halfway into the 7s (at 30), there are only 401 files that are 30 or lower. That's more than 2 hard files for every easy file -- a very bad ratio. To make matters worse, many of these files are older and have some mis-rhythms/poor structure. With that being said, it's necessary to quote this:

This is not the way to step an easy file. That would put out a shit file because its a shit song. Make a simfile for a song that is actually interesting and has good music but make a super easy chart for it.
If you think this is wrong, you need to rethink your idea of easy files. I very much agree with what people like Dossar/hi19 have said about easier files, and anyone who is a pad player will also agree with this -- files need to be about representing the song without being overly technical/correct. Do you really think a newer player is going to want to have to deal with ridiculously complex rhythms just because a song calls for it? Easier/casual players aren't going to care about a chart being "technically perfect", they're going to care about a chart that they stand a chance at doing. Many easier charts in rhythm games avoid the use of complex rhythms, even when a song calls for it. IIDX, Pop'n, DDR, ITG, PIU, ReRave, Technika, keyboardmania, GuitarFreaks, DrumMania, and hell, even mainstream games like Rock Band/Guitar Hero avoid the use of complex structures.

If you want to make an effective easy file, chart the song by representing it, not by keysounding it and unlayering everything.

EDIT: oh hey, looks like iironiic had something to say too, haha

If you add up all the 1-7's on the other difficulty level you'll stilll have a HELL of a lot more then the 77-90's on the current scale.... Think about it ...

It's better to leverage out everything evenly then distribute persay an easy/medium/hard/guru chart each week that way there is an even distribution of files being put in game. I'm sorry, but when I started going for avg. rank it was incomparable playing every single easy (for sake of argument 1-5 as aj said old scale) because there were a lot of them.

The game has to start addressing every single level of players instead of focusing on just one. And face it, go to your level ranks and add em up, you'll see there are much more easier files then hard ones.

Let alone 1-40 on new scale takes up ALMOST half the entire page. Rather 77-90's take up maybe 1/8.

There are more charts rated 1-10 in difficulty (on the 99 point scale) in game than charts rated 76+ btw
