I figured since Osu! has this kind of option where people can vote on whether they like or dislike a beatmap, we could probably do the same here.
We can choose whether we like or dislike a chart through the gameplay score, or do it through the song list. And it displays how many likes and dislikes the chart has.

Should be some sort of option for artists too.

I think it's a cool idea.

I like this idea a lot. Dislikes for files could be a red flag for things like frame fixing or more serious cases like Im Sick Of Uprock with the pause in the intro due to no leading silence.
Still, I fear this is going to end up like Youtube like/dislike bars, with people voting a highly difficult/technical chart down for any number of arbitrary reasons, not the least of which is mad cuz bad. One could also conceivably vote a chart up even though it's horrible because their friend made it and SOMEHOW got it past the judges. This feature, if implemented, is going to be useful for as long as the community allows it to remain so. |

What I'm afraid of though, is that people would abuse this feature and waste their time making multiple accounts to like/dislike a particular chart.

Basically this, but instead of a system of notations, we could have a like/dislike bar and it could be implemented directly into the site?
I'm all for it. But, personnally, I find the like/dislike system not enough precise. With a system of rankings, you can see what is your favorite simfile. This could be included in the levelranks also. You could see what files you have rated.

It's a good idea, but it should also come with a comments system of some sort so that users/staff can see whether or not the reason for giving a rating (more specifically, a poor rating on a good file, or a good rating on a poorly stepped file like vROFL for example) is legitimate.

I'm going to use this post as a perfect example of why I agree with this post.

Problem is, everyone is going to upvote files in their difficulty level they primarily like to play and downvote all the others.
Or people will downvote because they disliked the song but the chart was good. Or upvote because they like the song but the chart was bad. Or people will downvote because bias against a particular kind of music. Or perhaps down/upvote because of bias for the step artist. Thing is there's going to be so much bias in this, ... it just isn't going to be a good indicator of "good" or "bad" -ness of a chart or song. |

it's more like you know this community has millions of alts from perma'd people who are just gonna rape the system it's also about as irrelevant as profile votes, plus we have a really nice spreadsheet thread going that accomplishes this same goal but in a really less trolly manner. So we pretty much already have it. |

But I want shiny buttons and a little +[#] next to my simfiles when I choose them. I don't wanna look at spread sheets. That's boring and complex.

As long as everyone is biased, the result will be accurate
