From what I understand though, they worship him as a teacher or guru rather than a deity which would remove all thiest/"spiritual" parts out of it correct?

I've been to Indonesia several times to see relatives and cousins - I was never asked about my religion, but my mother gets asked that question all the time when she's over there.
It's better not to test your luck. |

But if not, some people don't really have much of a choice, esp. if they were born there and are monetarily/politically supressed. edit: yes you said "want". That doesn't necessarily mean you're referring to those outside the country. Last edited by bmah; 01-27-2012 at 01:57 PM.. |

Does the Indonesian government realize that they just lowered their standing in the eyes of every freedom-loving person in the world? That's not a trivial amount of people. Their recognizance of only six religions, and then forcing people to identify with one of those six, seems arbitrary and ridiculous.

Just to re-illustrate my point on how shitty Indonesia is, here are a few more laws to gasp over:
In Indonesia the penalty for masturbation is decapitation. No woman is allowed to be taller than her husband - if necessary she must chop off a section of her legs. It is against the law to not flush the toilet after using it. Special police randomly check on public restrooms and violators are publicly caned. |
