I used to believe soda was a subset of pop until a few years ago.

Cream soda, club soda, orange soda, etc. are types of pop

I'm southern IL and all I hear is soda other than the people I know that moved here from out-of-state.

Back in Colorado I mostly heard soda too, but it seems to be regional by parts of the state. Might have only been where I lived, I dunno.

Pop because I'm Canadian, but since I have lived in America most my life I've come to say soda, even if the rest of my family doesn't.
