NPS range seems like a good measure.
EDIT: Actually, I have this interesting mathematical thought that might be a good measure for awkwardness of a file too xD. I'll put that idea on hold though since I'm too busy atm. Last edited by iironiic; 11-30-2011 at 11:25 AM.. |

This is why I think a completely new difficulty system with a wider range (kinda like DF's 50-point scale) wouldn't be a bad idea. It would work pretty nicely considering FFR's songlist has over 1,000 songs now. Plus, I think one reason why there's so much complaining about difficulties is because a one-level difference is pretty big in a 13-level scale...
Of course, this might be just too much work. And even if it were to be implemented successfully, it might backfire and cause even more discrepancies (e.g. people wouldn't argue over whether something is a 10 or an 11, but rather whether it's 37, 38, or 39, etc.) /2 cents

finder is worse blackflag bait than fall silently
2 nps for the first 20-30 seconds of a 90 second file is bs

that wouldn't really help
no matter how much practice you do on the parts individually, when playing the actual file you still have to sit through the first 20 seconds and all your energy goes out the window

I was pretty sure that some people wouldn't react well to Transparent White ... so I was really sad when many people weren't liking story of dreamers, because that's what I wasn't expecting.
The intro to Transparent White is kinda weird, because I didn't want to make it too hard, going with all the sounds, or too easy and arbitrary, but then I guess it just ended up looking messy. The gallop patterns are supposed to be all easy for one- and two-handed players, which is why there's not much variation. In the last beat of the second measure of every four in the opening, the notes are a 96th early. So I thought, "Cool, I can put white notes here; those will go with the song title." Because it's ... white. And looking at the 12th gallops again, those actually should have been a 192nd or 96th earlier, whoops. But they are closer to 12ths than 16ths. About the other files ... As it's been said, Finder is half difficulty-easy and half difficulty-ten. The first quarter is slow, then there's that roll I've only gotten all perfects on three times. It's hard for me to not get goods on the transition. Have to reset to try again, and then it's just all easy stuff ... nothing hard to keep my fingers alert. And then it's just easy to get goods on the minijacks and, for me, the some of the 64th framers, especially the last ones. On that run, those three goods were all in that first roll. (I saw the "25" on my total score while playing, and thought that was only one good. Oops!) I don't like having to play the file a lot ... I'm actually more confident that I can AAA 0. It's more enjoyable, I think. But there's the same thing about a comparitively easier beginning and a spot I get goods on right before the hard parts come up. The first double-minijack, I will often get two goods on it. And because I've already BF'd the file, I have to restart and play the slow intro again, or else I won't improve my score. All the gallops do get me a lot, I usually get around 4-5 goods, but it's pretty random. The framers in the ending stream I more consistently mess up on, and my one-good run one was on one of those. It will be funny if I can AAA the D5 song but then get eliminated from D4 if I can't improve. And about the notes-per-second density graph, which is a really cool idea ... I was thinking that, for clarity of what exactly is causing that density, an overlay of the taps-per-second line could be added. Because combo is by notes and not taps, though, this isn't already programmed into the files, and would take more work to implement ... (Whatever interprets the notes in the file, tell it that, any notes on the same frame, only count it as one note. ... Something like that. I'm just another kid with no clue about coding.) Blue is taps per second, red is notes per second. A is 16th stream, B adds jumps on 4ths, C adds jumps on 8ths, D is a jumptrill, and E is a 32nd roll. Of course this is just a simple graphic and in no way represents how I think the graph should look, haha, but yeah. Adding taps per second as another line on the graph, I think, would definitely help give a better visual representation of the chart. And the 12ths felt kinda weird, maybe you could have used "64th swing" with green arrows as that looks a little more appropriate based on the waveform. It just felt slightly off which prompted the "felt like could have been 16ths" comment. Also your little picture differentiating taps versus arrows per second is a very good suggestion. Nice post.

0 (Piano Version) seems more fitting under the Classical heading rather than Misc.

Based on the the comments of lots of people who are more skilled, I think it must be of those songs that seems very impressive if you're not able to do it easily, but is very easy to cheat and score well on if you have the speed.
