Hour #20 without power. Our house looks like a sacrificial altar with all the candles. Trying to keep boredom away with books and blunts. Estimated time until power is restored: six days. Kill me now.

Yeah, it's a "prepare for the worst" type of thing, but still. The rational outcomes don't justify the high risk aversions, which stemmed from ignorance. |

I cannot figure out why people bought out all of the stores of their bottled water for the hurricane. For one, do you really need 12L of drinking water for a cat1/2? And for the second... can't you just get water from the faucet before the storm anyway?

![]() I didn't lose power at all. But most people in this area lost it at like noon and don't have it back. My friend contacted me and asked if he could hang at my place cause he didn't have power. So we chilled and went old school mario party 1 and made bets for lolz.

lots of houses let you get water from the tap even after the power goes out. Depends on what your water source is. People are just kinda impressionable.

If the power goes out we can't get water from the tap. Plus they don't recommend drinking water from the tap after a storm hits because of possible contamination. I don't drink from the tap anyway, the water at my mom's house doesn't smell good to me. No idea what it is. So me buying bottled water before the storm was normal anyway lol. Did buy a little extra in case we couldn't get anywhere for a while. Which there's actually flooding and trees down like all around our area. Damn watch some of the videos in this article http://news.yahoo.com/york-dodges-ir...010851568.html There's a whole bunch showing the damage from all over the east coast. Some of it is sick.

![]() that exact same joke was used already for the earthquake where at least it was sort of accurate (tip: that sort of joke isn't funny when people actually died)
i mean irene wasn't devastating or anything but there was definite damage

![]() Just got my power back last night at 9:00. We got a foot in our basement, killing a fridge and our heater. (Maybe our hot water boiler too.) Laugh all you want about hype but this kinda thing doesn't usually happen here in Philadelphian suburbia. If these storms weren't a once-in-a-fifty-year occurring instance, I'd be laughing it off probably and live in a place with a better designed basement. But since I don't, I spent one sleepless night fighting to make sure the pumps kept working and bailing, then the next moving stuff and trying to keep our generator from breaking down.
I can't go "lawl hype" because for me the hurricane did to us what they told us, plus it killed 40 people. Its all on your luck sometimes.
