Hurricane Irene

They put NJ under a state of emergency already and are telling people to leave the shore. What do you guys think of all this? Do you think it's going to be as bad as they are predicting?

Looks like it could be but it might not be ;) I want to go to beach so bad in a couple days (like a day before it hits) to see some cool wave action.

Re: Hurricane Irene

I'm on a live chat with meteorologists right now on weather.com and they're like being super serious about it. They're like "don't take this lightly it's going to hit." Because a lot of people are expecting it to change path I guess. I don't know what to think other than I'd rather leave for the weekend and go somewhere sunny cause AJ's bday is Sunday when it's supposed to hit lol.

Re: Hurricane Irene

I'm so psyched, I live right on the coast and I love bad weather

BRING IT

edit: they say it'll be a category 1 storm by the time it hits CT, and IIRC a cat 1 storm isn't terribly damaging. I mean, they'll be clearing branches and debris for weeks/months but nobody's house is gonna collapse. Not even yours, tyson.

Re: Hurricane Irene

Well people took Katrina lightly and look what happened there. Personally, I think it will downgrade, but also, you shouldn't take the chance. Go somewhere pretty. ^-^

Tim Ballisty weather.com:
That's what scares me. So many people believe that the meteorologists are hyping or crying wolf. That's just simply not the case. This is a hurricane, people! Get prepared. Yes, I'm shouting.

On the weather.com chat.

@prawn, cause my threads totally makes stuff happen.

Re: Hurricane Irene

wal-mart is already swamped in CT lol [45 minutes from the ocean]. I'm not expecting much but wind and rain since I'm inland and nowhere near large bodies of water. NE states might take a beating. Family members near the coast are already in hotels inland.

EDIT: Basically, don't go outside this weekend. gusts will probably cause havoc inland.

Re: Hurricane Irene

are you kidding me August is like "east coast gets to be excited about a small spoonful of what everyone else puts up with on a regular basis" month

ps katrina was a cat 5 hurricane in the warmer Gulf waters, completely different league from Irene in the hurricane-unfriendly Atlantic (e: sorry, North Atlantic)

Re: Hurricane Irene

For Houston & Galveston:
Hurricane Rita in 2005: "OOOOH SHIT! WE GOTTA LEAVE!" Then at the last second, Rita changes course and turns to the north.

Hurricane Ike in 2008: "OOOOH SHIT! HERE WE GO AGAIN!" Ike made a direct impact on Galveston and Houston

Re: Hurricane Irene

Well of course it could end up not hitting some places directly. But it is going to hit somewhere and it might be very powerful. Best to prepare everyone within range for the worst amiright?

Re: Hurricane Irene

That's what I told my mom. It's better to prepare for the worst. She doesn't think it's going to be anything more than heavy rain. I'm a bit concerned because we live in a lake community. Plus we're surrounded by trees. With all the rain we've been getting all month already on top of this coming. I think we're gonna get flooded.

My parents are taking it likely, but I'm extremely nervous. I told them to be safe and don't do any deliveries that day.

I would have loved if it had hit Florida. Would have brought back memories.

But in all seriousness, Hurricanes should not be taken lightly. Speaking from Experience.

That should be the main worries. Pennsylvania, NJ, and CT already are in a rainfall surplus. Anymore rain probably may cause some bad flooding.
