All information is taken from the gamer grub website and is not intended for copyright. I am sure by now everyone has heard of, or even tried the semi-new performance enhancing snack called gamer grub. It is said to enhance your ability to play games, and athletics, but do you believe it really works? Quote:
Looking at all of these you might wonder what real side effects or harms these as individuals may cause. When I looked through them, they really didn't seem all that appealing. L-Glutamic Acid does not need to be supplemented by the body considering it is an amino acid. There is no known side effects to supplementing it, but when taken in large amounts you may experience headaches or other neurological problems. If you have kidney disease you should consult your doctor before taking any high doses. Choline Bitartrate is usually used as diet supplement. Side effects of choline bitartrate supplements include sweating, a fishy body odor, stomach pains, cramping, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Vitamin A has no real dangers other then the increased risk of osteoporosis and hip fracture. Vitamin E is POSSIBLY UNSAFE if taken in high doses. If you have a condition such as heart disease or diabetes, don’t take doses of 400 IU/day or more. Some research suggests that high doses might increase the chance of death and possibly cause other serious side effects. The higher the dose, the greater the risk of serious side effects. Vitaman B3 may cause things such as liver damage, gout, stomach ulcers, headaches, and stomachaches. Vitaman C may cause problems such as the raising of your blood pressure (bad for diabetics), Blood-iron disorders, including conditions called “thalassemia” and “hemochromatosis”, increased chance of getting kidney stones, and can make sickle cell disease worse. Magnesium doesn't seem to cause to much other then your basic annoyances in every day life that you usually can't figure out such as, drowsiness, dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, thickening of the mucus in your nose or throat, and stomachaches. Now when you read these it doesn't sound SO bad, but in reality, who would want to much of any of these, and want heartburn, dry mouth, or increased chances of kidney stones, or even possible death? I tried and tried and tried to find an image of the back of the packaging to see how much of each of these is contained within the product, but to no avail I could not find any information on it. There are no retailers near by my home that contain this product. You would think that because this is a performance "enhancing" snack, that there is a slight increase in all of the vitamins and minerals contained in this product to help you perform better. If that is the case, then essentially it is an "increased" risk for side effects. To an extent I am sure all of these are regulated to be safe, but what if you really like the product and contain to scarf down more and more and more packages of this under the thought process that you want to perform really well in a video game match? That sounds like it would greatly increase your risk, and teens and young adults who would want to achieve this may or may not do this without knowing and real dangers. Now lets talk about the flavors of gamer grub. The flavors (some not included in the picture above and to my knowledge the only flavors available at this time) include, Pizza, PB&J, Smores, Chocolate, BBQ, Wasabi, and Chocolate. Now some of these sound appetizing but not all of them. The BBQ sounds probably the most appealing out of all of them but regardless, they all seem like a glorified Gold Fish or Trail Mix type snack. Now not all flavors include peanuts, according to the website as of now, the Smores and Wasabi flavors contain different nuts just incase you are allergic to peanuts or peanut oils. Now with all of this said, have any of you tried this product? Do you think it works or have tried it and can confirm it works? To me it sounds like it would have the same effect as even a 5 hour energy shot does on my body which is nothing. It just sounds like a glorified trail mix or flavored snack that doesn't really do anything but send you false information to make you think it will help you perform. With all the possible side effects of each vitamin, would you still consider purchasing this and trying it out? What are your thoughts on gamer grub as a product?

Doesn't seem any different than taking vitamin supplements. Take to many and you could get sick. I never eat this kind of stuff though or take vitamins.

I don't think eating some vitamins will give you 'an "increased" risk for side effects'. Pretty much all of the side effects you listed are side effects of specifically taking way too much of the chemical, not generalized side effects it always has, so there's absolutely no reason to worry about small doses having the same effect. Remember that too much of anything (even water!) can cause serious health problems. In fact, the vitamins are actually necessary for a healthy body, and having too little of them causes its own separate set of issues. So if you ask me, I think you're being totally overzealous, and I don't anticipate any dangers associated with normal use of this product, as long as you're not allergic to peanuts or whatever else is in it.
I do agree that it's basically a hyped-up Trail Mix type snack, but there's nothing wrong with that if you like eating it. It doesn't sound like the "components" included help short-term performance much if at all, but it's probably a good way to get some of your daily vitamins if they're not in the rest of your diet. |

Amp > this. The flavours don't exactly sound that appetizing at all. However, I would probably try one to see if they're actually good and effective.

Looks okay, but I'll stick to Bawls Guarana and Doritos. It's a proven formula for me, and as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I love Bawls! The only place that has that around here is a gaming center about 20 minutes away, but yet again, Bawls does nothing for me on the side of giving me energy and keeping me awake, it just tastes good haha.

Of course it won't do anything.
The only thing that would affect your performance would be psychostimulants, since they're known to increase things like memory and psychomotor performance. Even then, the boost you'll receive will only apply to taxing games (e.g. Starcraft), and the effect will be minimal.
