ALERT! Overreacting to Bill S.978, end of game footage, music, and other media
http://shoryuken.com/2011/06/29/trol...by-ultradavid/
http://www.destructoid.com/new-bill-...s-204982.phtml Basically the entertainment industry is freaking out about sites embedding and streaming "infringed content" So right now a bill has been brought up to congress which, if passed, makes all streaming of any type of copyrighted media illegal in both criminal and civil law meaning any streaming of gaming, movies, cartoons, tv, music, anime, etc. will get you in trouble. For ex a video of a little girl singing a song by lady gaga will become a felony. This will highly affect the internet and it's freedoms. Honestly, I think this is frigging retarded. It may even hurt many businesses, especially the gaming industry because a lot of people go online and (for example) check out gaming reviews or watch gameplay before buying a game. TL;DR: Get fined or possibly go to jail for streaming copyrighted content. GG. What do you think FFR? Last edited by C@!; 07-2-2011 at 10:44 PM.. |

Damn. The Let's Play as we know it, as well as all sorts of video walkthroughs and various flavors of awesomesauce are all about to be destroyed. D:
I've called my senators in the past about repealing DADT, but this time it's personal. |

Yeah, I think the bill will most likely be veto'd, or rephrased. Even though it would somewhat affect the music and movie industry, it would pretty much phuc over the video game industry because they've had a huge reliability over the internet over the past few years

I will lose my respect for the US government if they actually pass something foolish like this.

Re: ALERT! Bill S.978, end of game footage, music, and other media
Overreaction. This is meant as a loophole fix but does have a legitimate problem of being too open ended. One of two things are going to happen here. One; its going to get rewritten in order to more narrowly define the people it is trying to capture. Two; it will pass as it is long term and if prosecution actually follows up on crusader campaigns, legislation will change again to fix the loophole.
http://www.openmarket.org/2011/06/30...-mean-for-you/ Easily, companies could change their terms of service to publicly allow streaming and linking through a simple clause so people won't get automatically prosecuted. For example, Notch, the founder of Minecraft, has already stated he's going to do so if legislation passes automatically making all minecraft videos legal. (So you know... if that means anything.) Re: ALERT! Bill S.978, end of game footage, music, and other media
Erm, this is like.. nothing new and nothing to worry about. Copyright holders allow people to stream things and youtube has its own securities and systems to allow people to control their content. Smart companies, smart artists - they let people post their stuff a certain amount because it's free publicity.
Why are people overreacting?
