During high school, some of my friends would participate in this. It was a pretty big thing. At the end of the day everyone would go out into a field to break the silence.
Some of the teachers didn't support it, and would get mad when the kids wouldn't answer questions. The 17th, the only classes I have are two lectures, which means I wouldn't be going to class anyways.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that there's a point when you 'break the silence'
Usually publicly to announce it and the cause

Well, what are you going to do Syhto? You're not in school, so are you going to go to the grocery store and just stand there like a weird weirdo?

Ok fine.
I don't agree with this protest. Not only do I not like the idea of the protest itself, I just don't like the gays. I think it's immoral and wrong. Sure it may be a choice, but raping, torturing, and dismembering a Christian baby is also a choice.

Ok then.
Anyway, I probably could get away with doing this--I'm one of those shy types at school, even around my friends, and I don't really answer questions at school unless absolutely nobody else knows. Usually, that's not the case. Either way, it shouldn't be hard for me to do this at all. |

I agree with the few sporadic posts in this thread saying that "silence isn't going to get anybody's attention". I'm neutral on the homosexuality issue, but somewhere inside me, my inner redneck is saying, "Nobody cares about some queer-lover who refuses to talk." People will go about their daily lives without paying much attention to you who will not speak. I don't pay much attention in history, but I know that there were plenty of movements across the first half of the 20th century to eliminate racial segregation in the USA, and they eventually worked. Perhaps if the concerned parties borrowed methods used back then, they could be put to good use.

I don't think that making other people accept your sexual orientation through protest is the best way to go.
Its a mental discrimination, and you can't ''force'' a mind to change. As far as legal issues go protest works, but not because you are changing their opinion.. it works for the sake of profit or general approval that would be reduced otherwise... |

oh, and don't get me wrong.. I support the movement, I just wish we could find a more efficient idea to change minds.
