I go up to our bowling alley every wednesday with my parents when they do league bowling, so that's what I do then.

I could choose not to go, though, so... Hmm. Probably because I like the feeling of hitting them in rhythm. It keeps me fit, too. I'm the 2nd best player under the age of 15 in my city, presumably in the Kansas City area.
Dammit, if age mattered where I live, I'd be the best damn 14 yearold at DDR in Regina. Unfortunately whenever people say "Karen's the best in grade 9 at campbell(myschool)" They' ll go "Ryan's better then her" and they wouldn't care if i replied with "Ryan is also 4 years older then me"

[/quote]Ok, before someone put this in the DDR forum, this is an actual in-depth question. I don't want simple answers like," Because it's fun." Thats not an answer. Thats just a justification for playing it. The reason that I haven't stopped playing DDR is that this game has taught me to respect myself and to respect those who live and interact with me. Before I started playing DDR, I was in a 4-month battle with clinical depression. When I started playing DDR, it made me feel more special because it was something i could work to get better on. That was back in 2003. Now here are some of the things that happen to me now:

1. I became the 2nd place winner of a state DDR championship.

2. I now am more active and healthy to keep my endurance and speed up.

3. I am a teacher to literally 10+ friends in how to play DDR.

Everytime I play DDR, I literally push myself to the limit. Why? Because its fun.

Now I know that sounds contradictory because of what I said earlier, but what I really mean that its fun because its the one thing I know I'm better at than most people at. All my life I have always been the worst player in sports and always thought of myself as a nerd. Now I have people I never seen before, come up to me in the mall saying,"Wow! You're really good! How long have you been playing?"

Now I don't think you know how special it is to have people say that to you, but those who have heard this know It makes you want to play your best, win or lose.

So my question to you all is: Why Do You really Play DDR?
Quote:

same here except not the part about depression. i was allways the fat kid, the slow kid, the last one to finish the race. i never was really good at any sports or anything. i was a a skate demo one day and i was some ppl playing ddr at the skateparks arcade and i wanted to try it. that was 4 months and 20lbs ago and i can allready AA 9 footers. its the 1 thing i was ever good at. And when people come up to me in the mall and say "man i could never do that"....it really makes me feel good about my self. but i dont play it for the complements, i play it because its friggin fun and its my natural talent.

1. I'm damn good at it.
2. I've been paid to do it.
3. I've gotten a crowd of 40+ people.
4. It taught me to appreciate different genres of music.
5. It increased my reaction time, coordination, and balance.

I play because I feel like it. I'm great at Stepmania so why not try DDR now that I can read extremely well and know how to play properly.

Like what many other people said, I like playing DDR because it actually gives me something that I have over other people. Everyone normally used to think of me as 'the smart nerd that people play tricks on'. Well, people still think I'm kinda like a nerd, only this time a physically fit one.
Even better, I joined a DDR club at my school, and I impress a couple of people there, too. Long live DDR!!

Because people have made efforts to make them... like me. At the moment, I'm making an effort to create a DDR club. It's no fun either....

This is one of the few physical activities that I participate in and it's mostly because it uses every part of your body- the visuals, music, dancing, trying to keep balance, and it's something I do with my friends. it's perfect, there's not much else that does this much and it's something very unique. I'm one of a small group at my school who does this and I've met many new friends this way.

On the contary, DMX uses a LOT more of your body if you want to, ESPECIALLY during doubles. It's fun when you throw your head through the sensors.

I don't play DDR. Why don't I? Because I don't have anywhere to practice where I could get good before going and tring to draw a crowd. Because when they're laughing, a crowd is NOT good for the ego. Though, it has been sprouting up all around me. I went to another school for a debate tourny, and the school was holding a DDR tourny in the cafeteria. Funky. (Or dancy, really.)

I saw one guy playing it at an arcade. He was pretty good, and I was really impressed. So I gave it a shot once he was done....and did horribly. Since then, I've been practicing to make sure I would not embarras myself today. These days, I can A most heavy songs and I can draw some serious crowds so I'd say the crowds are what makes me play. That, and I just got a metal pad fo christmas

I enjoy DDR alot. It's something I can do with my friends and it makes me feel better about myself because i'm not just sitting around not doing anything. It helps to build confidence when you can tacke a song that you couldn't play before, or even get parts that you used to miss. It keeps me in shape, and makes my brain work faster. When I first started playing DDR, watching those arrows was the hardest thing. They would come up to fast. Now that i'm used to it, it doesn't bother me much anymore.

Odd, the only reason my friend can't play DDR for over an hour straight is BECAUSE she has asthma =\

The only reason I started playing was because 3 moths earlier i had broke my ankle during the football season. So i used it as a rehab tool, and got it for christmas. I have gotten pretty good and can almost A every song on heavy, yet I haven't tried to go to an arcade. I will have to do that sometime. As for me, i don't have to lose weight, so after I rehab, I'm not sure how much longer i will play. Actually, it's just too addicting, I think i will play forever. Too bad my school doesnt have any ddr clubs, or Japanese classes, or anything, I'm so glad we wasted our money on a new gym floor, and new railings.
