Hookers and Blow

Ok, before someone put this in the DDR forum, this is an actual in-depth question. I don't want simple answers like," Because it's fun." Thats not an answer. Thats just a justification for playing it. The reason that I haven't stopped playing DDR is that this game has taught me to respect myself and to respect those who live and interact with me. Before I started playing DDR, I was in a 4-month battle with clinical depression. When I started playing DDR, it made me feel more special because it was something i could work to get better on. That was back in 2003. Now here are some of the things that happen to me now:
1. I became the 2nd place winner of a state DDR championship. 2. I now am more active and healthy to keep my endurance and speed up. 3. I am a teacher to literally 10+ friends in how to play DDR. Everytime I play DDR, I literally push myself to the limit. Why? Because its fun. Now I know that sounds contradictory because of what I said earlier, but what I really mean that its fun because its the one thing I know I'm better at than most people at. All my life I have always been the worst player in sports and always thought of myself as a nerd. Now I have people I never seen before, come up to me in the mall saying,"Wow! You're really good! How long have you been playing?" Now I don't think you know how special it is to have people say that to you, but those who have heard this know It makes you want to play your best, win or lose. So my question to you all is: Why Do You really Play DDR? Extra: Oh and Moogy, please don't act like an idiot on this topic.

I don't know. I guess it is again, not only because it is fun but that no one else around me is very good. Look I am considered pretty good, and I have trouble with a 6 footer. So that is how bad the people are around me.
It also has something to do with the fact that i dont get to play very often. |

DDR is really great. It's fun to play, but at the same time is good for you (working out)--few video games do that. Besides being a fun way to work out, lots of people also love the flamboyant aspect--being able to go to an arcade and have people crowd around you, stare, point, and have their jaws drop in awe. Personally, I do it becuase of a mix of everything: It's fun and good for you, so what's to lose, and hey every once in a while showing off is kinda fun too.

i do it to impress anyone that passes the game at are local gameroom, they'll stand and watch you for like 10 minutes, and are amazed that you are able to keep up with the bright, headache causing lights

multiple reasons.
1. It's one thing I can proudly say I'm good at (self-confidence) 2. I get a HELLUVA lot of respect from it. Walking out of an arcade and having random people coming up to you and saying "good job" can be really big on the ego. 3. I met so many people this year through DDR it's not even funny. This year is my freshman year in highschool and people at my highschool recognized me for being "that DDR chick who hangs around at southland mall" I've made so many new friends through DDR that i could say over half of my closest friends are avid DDr players like me. 4. It's helped me lose weight (5 Ibs.), and it still is.

Funny thing is, I don't even see what's so fun about DDR. Just hitting buttons in time to music doesn't even sound entertaining in the least, yet somehow it is. Sure, there are more exciting games, but I don't see how I can enjoy DDR even a little bit. What is it about DDR that is addicting? That's what I wanna know.

So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =( In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz. So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright. And I write the blog for their website. Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O |

Why do I play DDR? The answer is kinda simple, Something to do. Something that I thought when I started that I could get really good at. I don't really exercise at all so this is my exercise. I too am sorta a teacher to a few, I've gotten at least 5 people to play it and more to play FFR and SM.
I greatly thank tnyhwk900 for bringing me into DDR, its certainly better than just watching tv or whatever else I might have been doing if I hadn't been plying DDR. |

Meh, depends. Helps keep me in fit, it's fun. I guess one of the main reasons is because it's challenging. And even then, you can't really BEAT the game. Whatever it is, there is always something different (like adding mods and such). I guess I like games that are like this because you have to have a lot of hand-eye coordination. It helps with my karate, as well as my life. I'm not as clumsy nowadays (but I still do get the several accidents)

I met some friends playing DDR.
-Time Gap- My friend met his wife at a competition that actually got moved to the next day, so he never got to compete, but they are married now. -Time Gap- We actually bought our own DDR machine, with people in other parts of the states following us.. Wow..GG DDR. Thanks for messing with my LIFE.

I'm not sure, but it's something like the opening post.
I was never good at sports, or running, or pretty much anything sport-ish. I'm good at hooting in basketball, but that's it. This is pretty much the one thing close to a sport that I'm good at.

I also really suck at most sports. I do it because I like to brag, and to hang out with my girlfriend because she plays DDR too. We even got a DDR club started at our school. The day before the first meeting we told people that we were going to do it, and they were like, "That gay game. Man, you guys are never going to start that." Then thirty seconds later on announcements whoever was talking said, "...and today is going to be the first meeting of the DDR club."

I go up to our bowling alley every wednesday with my parents when they do league bowling, so that's what I do then. I could choose not to go, though, so... Hmm. Probably because I like the feeling of hitting them in rhythm. It keeps me fit, too. I'm the 2nd best player under the age of 15 in my city, presumably in the Kansas City area.
