You put my exact thoughts into a good description, Rubix. Way to go. Jacks are okay-super-mega-fine-alright when there's just two or three in a row, or even if there's a short burst so long as it isn't RIDICULOUSLY fast, but Crowdpleaser, Hardkore Atomic, Death Piano, and Revo (I'm sure I'm missing some but those are the main ones) just aren't any fun to play because of their ridiculous jacks. Club is about as fast as I can take it before I just forget about it and move on to something else that I can actually have fun playing. I assume the point of FFR is to have fun, so making it a chore isn't my plan. RunnyMorning and Molto are also files that could be better without those damn jacks. I don't care if they make sense with the music or not. Both files are fun to play, but if they released a V2 with colored notes and the jack parts gone, they would be some of my most played FFR songs ever. |

I've never felt like I'm playing the song, I must be crazy.
Jacks are fun, vibrating is fun, everyone just hates both because they're bad at them, practice. Edit: Lemme rephrase that, accurate jacking and accurate vibrating are fun, just mashing keys senselessly is stupid, vibrating the speed to AAA a 200bpm 32nd trill is fun, wrist jacking the exact speed of some jack to AAA it is fun. No I'm just not crazy enough to think that the keys I'm hitting on my keyboard are what's making the sound come out my speakers. If it was IIDX/Popn and the keys I pressed made sounds, then maybe I would get more of this feeling.
Also if my keys could light up when I pressed them, that would be cool. Last edited by [TeRa]; 09-30-2008 at 11:50 PM.. |

you guys don't get the point of death piano
people are constantly complaining about how easy ffr files are, and I was sick of their b*tching, so I converted shash's dp by removing all the retarded sections while still maintaining difficulty at the time of its release it was WAAAAAY harder than any other ffr file (if any mentions vrofl in response to this they should die), so it illustrated my words very well

Well you have to factor in averages as well. If you get that many boos you're bound to get averages. averages take away from boos.

I do not understand this obsession with files like Death Piano, Amber Shores, etc. After a point, it just becomes about how fast you can vibrate and nothing else. Speed seems to be all the rage, now. Files are no longer fun. I've no intention of becoming "top tier SM player" because frankly, things like Linus' BS and 1000bpm Jackhammer are not my cup of tea. "Step it this way and only this way because we all like generic files". I haven't played many fun charts as of late, because they all play the exact ****ing same. I miss experimental files, or something that is completely absent from files any longer: creating your own rhythms with the steps. That is nonexistent now. Technical accuracy seems to override that as a priority. Frankly SG, hi19's MAMA file is more fun to play than all of your files ****ing put together because it's different and interesting to play. For you, it's PR, layering, PR, layering. This is why I hate your files. This is why I hate the SM community's picks. They don't stand out. On that note, let's put Howdnbshouldbestepped onto FFR. That'd be fun, right? It's certainly hard! Must be.

I think SG's Death Piano would have been a decently challenging file even without the ending jumpgluts. It's mainly the last section of the song I dislike because I'm literally forced to go into mindless mash-mode. Everything up until that point was fine.
Besides, I feel much more accomplished when I do well on a song that requires some finesse. If I pass a really hard mash-song, I don't feel as great because all I did was mindlessly hammer ****. If I do really well and AAA/AAAA a difficult song, it's a great feeling to be able to pull off that kind of focused consistency/accuracy. I second Xiao's opinion when it comes to steps -- creativity trumps difficulty. Just slapping mashwalls to high-speed music rolls or boring, uncreative streams to a background beat is just so incredibly overdone, and most files reek of this. Not every techno/trance/dance/pop/SONG is good for stepping. Songs that are themselves creative usually give way for very creative interpretation, and I love it when someone is able to exploit this.

Battle theme probably took 20 minutes to step, the 2nd half the beginning mirrored. The file is fun to an extent, but it doesn't hold all that much replay value. Quote:

technical files (yes i'm going to use the term technical here) like piano forte, planet kramer, etc. colored note bull**** isn't fun. it's just the step author strokin his own dick thinking he's the tightest stepper alive. if you honestly have fun with those files then your life is sad.

I never said all colored note songs were fun, I'm just saying piano forte is IMO.
