Is it possible to bring back a downloadable version of FFR? We download the songs, and whatnot. Like SM. I'd love to be able to play FFR on my laptop (which doesn't have internet).
If it's possible or wanted, perhaps we could upload or scores from it? Support? |

Play FFR offline. Preload the songs online, and keep it on the results screen. You can play that particular song over and over again as long as you don't click try different level offline.
It's even stickied here as to why we can NEVER have a downloadable FFR. http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ad.php?t=25449

our servers would not like the 1.5+ GB download it would take, for each user. we'd have to charge a lot more than the $3 per download we did way back in the day. At least $4.
But... really... the reasons are that it'd be so complicated to deal with 600+ levels, token, secret levels.... needing to connect still to report scores (if you wanted), dealing with people hacking it for music/level data, updating it for new levels. all kinds of logistic issues that make it a royal pain in the ass.

you still have all the other issues. massive initial download, updating for new levels, music files / level data. plus probably stuff i'm not thinking of.

Perhaps a subscribers only thing? Seems like something that would be nice to have as a subscriber.

I remember the downloadable FFR back when. It was cool, but, Tass has a lot fo good points. It really isn't worth it now. I suggest playing SM if you don't have internet/lose internet.

I would go for a Subscriber's only thing. Or maybe a discount for subscribers. You'd being rolling in money if you were paid, Tass, =D!

Stepmania runs after a bad storm knocks out internet(I know, it's happened =_=). You could have Stepmania downloaded, so you can still play it.

There are ways to make this work and be secure, but I don't see this happening. It would require more than flash development, and we don't currently have the resources to maintain two builds of FFR.

I think a nice, happy medium can be struck.
Would it be possible to set it up so that when a song is played, it's cached in a more permanent way? I know it definitely used to allow playback from cached songs, allowing you to play ANY song you had recently played INSTANTLY. Was this changed? I can understand why it would be required to load the song each time, but would this really matter in an offline environment where scores aren't recorded and saved? All that would need to be done would be to not require verification from the swf if no Internet connection is available, and in the case that an Internet connection is unavailable, simply have it not even try to record any statistics. Is that also not possible? No massive download needed. No separate build of FFR. No problem of recording scores. |

I know I'm fairly new to all of this but a downloadable verson is a good and bad. A plus is that more people can use it in the event of an outage(storms are scary) or the lack of Internet connection(I live with that daily). A downside is alot of people will not have the ability to download for fear of: obsessive parents, computer blocks, etc.

afro: you can still play cached levels instantly. you would just have to have a window of FFR open... and you'd have to know which levels you had cached. because as soon as you try to load a level you don't have cached, it'll get stuck at 0 (since you have no 'net), and then you can't refresh to re-try a different level.

You know if you go into favorite you can make it where you can go on the game offline.
I think i've dont it before. But im not sure if you can actually load songs. Unless you have it preloaded, and you haven't cleared you cache.
