![]() I need something to read on my flight to Japan, so I'm looking for book recommendations. My goal is to find something not too long (probably about 200-300 pages) that will keep me entertained and has a well-developed story (preferably not one with a sequel). I'm not picky about genres, although I'm not into historical lit.
----- Edit: I'm not personally looking for book recommendations anymore, but since this is bumped, people could still post about good books they've read and maybe give other people ideas for new reading material. (: Last edited by blackbuterfly451; 08-23-2008 at 01:34 PM.. |

![]() No spoilers.
Deltora Quest, by Emily Rodda: Another low reading level, but quite a good series nevertheless. (there's even an anime, because it became popular in Japan as an English novel). 7 books in total. The whole series is shorter than one Harry Potter book. Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman: High reading level. Basic physics knowledge will allow you to enjoy this more. Is part of a trilogy called His Dark Materials. Epic scifi material. This is a definite must for all scifi lovers. Bartimaeus Trilogy, by Jonathan Stroud: High reading level. Epic magic series. This is a must read for all magician society lovers. Redwall Series, by Brian Jacques: 19 mainstory books to date. Very low reading level in the beginning of the series, but makes for some good war hero type story. This is a story concerning nature. Humans don't exist. Chronological order listed in the link. Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, by Brian Jacques: 3 mainstory books to date. High reading level. A good read for people who like stories of a solo travel guided by divine providence. I'll list more later. Check out the wiki hyperlinks for more info on plot.

![]() Thanks for the suggestions!
I've read The Chronicles of Narnia - they were so-so. The Redwall series looks pretty interesting though... Any non-series book suggestions? |

Sorry, I only read epic series. Manga inclusive. You can consider Deltora Quest series as the length of one Harry Potter book. And yes, you can understand each of the Redwall Series books separately.

![]() The Temeraire series is really good. Non series would have to be Battle Royale - A group of kids from japan who get kidnapped and taken to an island and now must fight to survive. I got the book and it's really good.

![]() Most stuff by Clive Barker, my favourite by him would be "Imajica", which is an amazing book. Not to mention it's just over 1000 pages so it should last you on that flight haha.

![]() House of Leaves sounds interesting, as does Imajica, although I think it would be a bit tedious to read.

![]() He writes? Awesome, be right back, buying that book.
Also, borrowed House of Leaves from someone starting to read soon... The last book that I read was "The Shipping News" and it was pretty good. The writing style took some getting used to...
