You're right for once. Halo isn't Tetris. They're both the same thing though. Tetris was a console-pusher for the original Game Boy.

Halo was the console pusher for the Xbox and Halo 3 is pretty much going to be a console pusher for the 360. That's why our Best Buy store is going to have a pretty big booth displaying the game as well as some 360's (Including the crappy imho, 'new' Halo edition 360's)

No, what I meant by record breaking was that not only did it sell out of pre-orders, it also broke the 160 million dollar margin in presales alone. Since your PS3 numbers don't matter (The system didn't sell worth **** because of it's miniscule amount of systems out there. The PS2 however, /was/ record-breaking as far as sales go.) Analysts all say that Halo 3 could be the fastest selling game of all time by reaching $200 million in sales within a timespan of hours. Bit early to say that now, but who's going to argue, really? (Sans the people who think it's all 'overrated.')

That's kinda like the PS3's record-breaking. It's a completely trivial "record" to break but whatever gives your company press I suppose. "Hey we sold out the fastest in this one region! Go us! Nevermind the fact that our competition would've sold more had they had the supply out there!" Yeah, breaking records. They only matter when the record isn't some insanely trivial matter.

I've already said my peice about this here. PS3 sucks anyways imho, but it sure does make a good grill.

Other than the fact that they show how many people are probably going to buy the game, of course. I don't recall Grand Theft Auto III/VC/SA had millions of pre-orders but they sure sold more copies than Halo!

Pre-Order sales are essentially actual sales themselves. Ask any retailer and they'll say that once you've pre-ordered it, you've pretty much bought the game. (Despite it not being in your possession.) Now, as for Grand Theft Auto... First of all, we all know that the big winner of the series was San Andreas. It's exclusive to the Playstation 2, as of now. I love how you keep going around the fact that there are more Playstation 2's in homes than there are xboxes, but then again, we're not discussing that matter. In my opinion, San Andreas sold so many more copies than the Halo games did because there are simply more consoles available. I remember you naming the numbers between Ps2 owners compared to Xbox owners. People aren't going to buy games for a system they don't own, unless they're for gifts.

it doesn't matter if the game is popular or not, as long as is good, maybe overrated and overhyped but if it's good i'll buy it ( not pre-order it)

in fact i can think of one game that it didn't have a lot of hype and that it was underrated but still it is a great game (i think squeek knows this one), i'm talking about tales of symphonia, that game is awesome however it is not best selling of anything or it has a super high score or whatever.

my point is do not belive in hypes and anti-hypes, sure halo 3 got a lot of pre-orders i bet that a lot of those people haven't even touched the game.

example number 2 lair and heavenly sword, overhyped games too but they were a great dissapointment (except heavenly sword, the only bad thing of the game is the lenght).

halo 3 might be a good FPS, but you don't know that right now, it might be the same thing as the second one (or might not) but i think this is not an issue for halo hardcore fans anyway.

let them be happy with their hype if they think halo is the best game ever let them say that it's their opinion, (in my opinion final fantasy XII is the best game ever but no one else thinks that), the game is not bad (talking of halo 1 and 2 here, and i can say that because i started playing the first).

Say a game gets five million pre-orders. Then the game is released and nobody buys it. It gets five million sold copies. Yes, it had a lot of pre-orders, but that doesn't change the fact that the only people who wanted the game were people who pre-order.

Say another game gets ten pre-orders. Ten. But it sells forty million copies.

Which game did better? One was "record-breaking!!!!" and had massive hype, but it ended up selling less than the other game. Get my point yet?

If everyone thought like Halo fans, then there would be more than a million pre-orders for every game. I don't pre-order games because I know they'll be in stock when I go to the store, so there's no point in putting a down payment on a video game. Some people are insecure and figure the production won't meet demand, so they pre-order.

Edit: Oh way to go. You geniuses have your numbers wrong. Halo 3 doesn't have a million worldwide pre-orders-- it has four million in the US. That's a great way to make me sound like an idiot. And you yell at me for giving "false numbers".

FYI...I said that it's already sold over a million preorders. That in itself was the record... The fact that it's in actuality sold 4 million by now in the US alone(Wow) is an astonishing new fact to me.

The only one of your examples I was going to lock was the God of War 2 thread until I realized we never really had one to begin with. That's why I left it alone.

Its alot easier to just be able to go a thread about said game than having to try and have a discussion about it in the 360 thread while 4 other people suddenly start talking about how excited they are for Beautiful Katamari.

true true, besides halo is halo and 360 is 360, and look in the bottom of the page for related threads, if i'm not mistaken there's only 5 threads about halo and not all of them are of halo 3.

Except we've had dozens of threads for Halo 3 so far.

Also, we manage with the Wii thread and it's much larger than the Xbox360 thread.

It's my job here to keep clutter down. I know some forums are stupid enough to allow a new thread for every new episode of a TV show. Every week it's like "Bleach 240!" "Bleach 241!" "Bleach 242!". Seriously.

It's been our mission to reduce clutter for a long, long time.

Do a search for Halo. There have been many other threads. The announcement of the game, the announcement of the Beta, the impressions of the Beta, etc.

I hope I'm not bothering anyone. I ask yet again: tell me where I said Halo 3 is a bad game and that nobody should play it.

No, I won't play it because I don't own an Xbox 360. Nor do my friends, my neighbors, my relatives, my college buddies, or my co-workers. My friend does own an Xbox and bought Halo and Halo 2 for his Xbox. I tried the first one and found it fun on co-op campaign for about an hour or two. Driving the car off the cliff in the 2nd level over and over again lost its charm. Then I played the 2nd one for about an hour or two and found out the game's single player was pathetic. Seriously. Horrible, horrible single player.

I'd love to play Halo 3 so I can have a subjective opinion on how badly I think it sucks, but it just looks like that won't be possible. So I'll resort to just not playing it.

I haven't been wrong about a video game franchise yet. Final Fantasy has 12 games and several spin-offs. Millions of people love the series. I call it overrated. I hadn't even played a Final Fantasy game before I made that statement. Then I played FFX and FFVII. Both of them were horrible games. I confirmed my suspicion and promised never to doubt myself again.

Though I appreciate the irony in your last statement.
