Wrong. It was a play where the kid tried to kill the father with a cereal bar, but ended up getting hit with a 'death blow' by the step father.

Yeah, the news is exaggerating on his writings. You can read them from the link Dunlop posted. I read them, and honestly they weren't as horrifying as the media is making them sound. They just seemed kind of stupid and immature.
It's certainly odd that he'd pick those types of things to write of all topics he could have chosen, and he definitely had some kind of anger built up (or at least an obsession with such things), but I wouldn't keep repeating it as "twisted and macabre" as the news has been saying. There's no graphic violence really, just a lot of vulgar arguments.

Nationality has nothing to do with this situation. It could've easily been anyone with a disturbed mind. Asian, Mexican, American, Canadian, African... it doesn't matter.

You mean, Columbine High School shootings in 1999? >_>
And yes, the news totally exaggerated the stories, I won't lie. They're not even that bad, really, they're just really, really stupid, so, I stopped reading about halfway through both. Extreme stupidity. I also find it rather.. ridiculous that China sent out condolences to the families of the victims before the identity of the shooter was known. They must feel like dumbasses after finding out that he was from South Korea. =\ I mean, come on.. Just from the word Asian, do you automatically think Chinese? It could've been ANY type of Asian person. |

Well, several countries were expressing condolences (China) or outrage (Australia), so I don't really think China was expressing sorrow JUST because the shooter was Asian.

Well, when they reported who the man was and all, the news made sure to emphasize the fact that China had actually done so. Maybe it's just me, or does that seem a little racist? I haven't really looked any further into it to know about Australia or anything, just the mentioning of China along with the profile of the shooter, and then Britain complaining about how last year they only had 48 homicides with their population of over 35 million (I think) and New York's of 500 homicides last year with their population of about 8 million. I mean, that IS ridiculous, but, geez. =\
And yeah.. but, I've always been against the idea of Americans having the right to bear arms, it's just.. insanely stupid. Especially with not just this college student legally getting his, but also the situation in which younger, high school, middle, elementary age kids have access to these weapons, usually from their parents. |

His right to bear arms didn't make him shoot up a university. It certainly facilitated his actions, but it didn't make him do it. VA has some of the loosest standards on gun control, and I would be surprised if someone didn't at least push for a change.
What surprises me even more is how many people seemed to think he was capable of violence but didn't say anything. Of course, you never really expect someone to commit such horrific acts, but his ROOMMATES were reported as saying, "When we heard what happened, we wondered if it was Cho." There HAD to be signs. There HAD to be something someone could have done or said to prevent this. |

Even if you think someone is capable of doing such a thing, even if they outright talk about considering it...there's only so much you can do when someone hasn't actually committed a crime yet.

Last night I saw on a news network (I cant remember which one) where a school shooter was being interviewed. The shooter said at the time when he did the shooting he didn't realize that when you shoot someone they most likely will not get up. He said he thought it was like in the videogame DOOM when you shoot the aliens they get right back up.
I guess this guy didn't realize that he was shooting aliens in DOOM, not people.

... the shooters RA stepped in to talk to the shooter and his girlfriend because they were fighting, and he shot him and then his girlfriend. This happened like 2 hours before the other shootings.
