You're considering one life right now, the life of the unborn child. With that one life, two or more are going to be potentially ruined. The individuals that immediately come to mind are the child and the mother. The mother and child both suffer emotional trauma if put up for adoption, and both suffer a dead-end cycle of poverty and government dependence if kept. Other groups can be affected, the most obvious being immediate family. Imagine the child is aborted. The mother can go on to lead a life with better chance for success, and can have more children that can live in better standing. Immediate family and other groups are not affected. So, you think the saving of one life is cause for ruining others? Wouldn't you give up your life to save 100 people, or even 10 people? Think about the two options carefully. Save one life, potentially ruin two or more. Prevent the start of one life, preserve the opportunity of better lives for one or more. Worst case scenario: one ruined life. Now, I'm not going to try to start the "is it alive or not" argument. Just remember that there is a chance that the fetus is not technically "alive" yet. So, you may not be killing anything. You can't kill something that isn't alive, and then it won't ever know the difference anyway.
