Re: The Speedrunning Thread
There's been a lot of buzz about this recently, I had a very lengthy talk with RWhiteGoose (he used to work on this kind of stuff for AGDQ a LONG time ago) and from what I hear is that there was a recent change in staff and that's probably a strong suit case for why the opinion of the process is so sour right now.
Working on implementing stuff like bid wars to get certains runs even SUBMITTED into AGDQ because it's ez & fast money that will go directly towards the fundraiser, and from the talk I've had with the lot of runners 1 or 2 days ago, they're doing it for the money, not necessarily for the community. Like, this stuff has been happening for awhile now, at least 3 years, and a lot of speedrunners are fed up about it but no one has the ability to make the move it takes to shut down AGDQ and start up a new charity event and doing it correctly. I've heard from a number of sources that most people are going to let this AGDQ slide with what they're doing, and see what happens from it. If it doesn't turn out as well as expected, there may be an actual donger riot to start up a new event under different staff, possibly funded the first time around by kickstarter etc., and then funded by the community from there on out depending on how well that plan goes. As it is right now, practically 75-80% of submissions have been rejected. I could understand 50 or 60% under serious circumstances, but 80% is quite a lot to ignore, especially when you're ignoring name brand titles like Spyro, Yoshi's Island, and Final Fantasy. I'm still incredibly salty that Trihex's Yoshi's Island got rejected because it was "too boring". edit: about 75-80% of runs ignored, 60% of runtime ignored Last edited by gold stinger; 10-15-2015 at 02:13 PM.. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
there are so many great submissions there have to be great games that aren't going to make it into the schedule. there are a lot of factors to consider as to why anything is getting in and no matter what people will be upset at whatever stuff doesn't get in.
and ya it's for the fundraiser that's the point. they are bigger than before and more successful so changes in the process and the setting from past years are often interpreted as undesired but it's just how processes alter naturally when events like this get much more attention and success. whether certain people appreciate it when it's a more tight knit and smaller group of people who are buddy buddy is super irrelevant. as a 100% charity event the top priority should always be the fundraiser. |

after u say something like this, everything said afterwards is automatically taken as if it were a bowl filled with smelly green diarrhea & then promptly flushed down the pot

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
I would disagree, I think Trihex's commentary more than enough makes up for the lack of flashy things that happen on screen.
Oh well... |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Was there during the pre-show, 5 mins before Splatoon opened up AGDQ, found it kind of funny that Staiain got a shoutout from the announcers as one of the more unique entries this year in AGDQ.
I guess there's a lot more hype around rhythm gaming than I thought. 140,000+ viewers is a lot of publicity. Last edited by gold stinger; 01-3-2016 at 08:58 PM.. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
You just watch, the number of rhythm gaming submissions will sky-rocket. I don't think they would go so far as to make a rhythm gaming block but you never know!

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
if Staiain gives shoutout to FlashFlashRevolution I will bet 100,000 credits that the average number of players currently online will double after his performance for awhile, or more.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Not gonna lie, if he gives FFR a shoutout, this presentations he's doing will probably bump the site up to traffic levels that haven't been that high since ~2008. why is it when I post on the forums I post on 5 different threads at once?
