One time I fixed some flag while my dad must've been in earshot from another room and when the high score drop down sounded at the end of the file I heard 'about time you fucking shitlord'
I play FFR at school all the time. Almost everyone in my grade knows I play it. Doesn't bother me if people don't like it, as it's something I like to do.

i would also like to take this opportunity to shout out deadlyx39
on the one hand i feel as though your absence from these forums is a shelled victory for all ffr forumites however after careful examination of my internal feeling apparatus i have come to the conclusion that i do in fact miss your posts
The only people that know I play IRL are my brother, my gf and a couple friends from my church. None of which play the game, so I still feel alone in that sense. Oh well! More arrows for me I guess.
I used to play FFR a couple times at highschool when I went there. Now I only play it at home and don't play it in public anymore.
As for the real life people on FFR, one of my good friends who I've known since kindergarten introduced me to FFR. He stopped playing and caring about the site a really long time ago, though. The same thing happened with two people who I'm friends with irl, they stopped playing the game and caring about the site a long time ago after I introduced the site to them.
I'm a little self-conscious about people irl knowing I play FFR because I'll think that they'll think that I'm some sheltered person who will 'never leave their parents' basement and never do well in the real world', so I just keep the FFR stuff at home.
Honestly, I get too much anxiety to play this game in public because I like to be totally concentrated when I play. If people are walking/talking around me, I can't focus while playing the game. The last time I played in public (was playing Stepmania) was when I was in 11th grade. I played Zag's Shihen chart and I had like 5 kids sitting behind me because they thought I was super pro. I really got tired of hearing, "Man, this kid has absolutely no life to get this good at this game."

one does not simply hate everyone that plays stepmania AND watch anime.

That's exactly what happened to me when I played FFR in highschool. I had like the whole class crowding behind me watching me play. It was quite annoying and threw off my concentration a little bit. That's one of the reasons (as I stated in my previous post) why I don't play FFR/SM in public.
yeah, when my buddies and I played in high school, we'd always attract crowds around our table and people going like "YOOOOO LOOK AT THESE GUYS GO", "THESE KIDS HAVE NO LIFE", etc.
I used to drive my family crazy from my key taps back in high school when I played practically everyday. my computer used to be located in the upstairs hallway area outside of the bedrooms, so every time I played my key taps would echo and resonate throughout the entire house. it basically got to the point where I could only play when no one was around because I'd constantly get bitched at for being a nuisance back then, lmao.
My family knows. Some people at college know. I very rarely play the game anymore to preserve this keyboard for another two months, and I hate playing on the laptop keys so I don't really play in public anymore. I used to at high school when I was bored and it was on lightdarkness, but I've never been good at the game irrespective of the people amazed at my "skill." If I were better, I might play it in public more, but I don't really care if people know. I just say it's like DDR for the keyboard and that I'm bad.

Best strat: enjoy the game, play what you feel like when you feel like it. Don't think about what you are doing or why, enjoy the gameplay, the artistry behind the stepfile, and enjoy the music.
When the game isn't fun for you anymore, take a break. It's not a job, nobody here is professional and getting paid to play and force themselves to constantly improve... it's a game.

Yeah, FFR is addicting...I don't think I'll get bored with this game unless I somehow become the best at it, which won't happen.
Only one of my friends knows about FFR, and I got him into other rhythm games because of it. (He mainly plays Stepmania/DDR now) Most of my family are aware and have no real opinion on it, although they get annoyed by my keytaps more often than not.
I don't really play ffr in public either, mainly because the site was blocked at both my school and college, and I don't play it at uni because I don't bring my laptop in everyday and studying>ffr. If I did, I'd probably just end up getting similar responses to what happens when I play DDR in my local arcade, such as 'how do you do that' or 'wtf?'
Ironically though, almost everyone I know is aware that I play DDR, yet I flat out refuse to tell most of them about FFR.

Reason: 'Adjustments'
FFR never comes up in my day-to-day life. No one at university knows and my family thinks I quit a long time ago.
Used to play in the computer lab back in high school but stopped because of the issue with comments from crowds that Mahou and GD mentioned.
