![]() A letter just came into the mail and ticked me off a bit. A new residential parking program is to go into effect the 1st and it seems really useless and just another way for the city to increase revenue. (Though the letter states it's to keep on-street parking available for residents) Such BS.
In short, - you need a sticker to park on any street. - street parking times vary (some are Mon. thru Fri. and some are Sat. and Sun. as well as 8am to 6pm etc. but this is stated in full in only one .pdf from the link on the site which is a great for a poor city) - theirs about 8 different stickers that vary in pricing ($300 for (6) months for business parking) - no sticker is a fine up to $150 (I think) - temp visitor stickers are dated, and only allowed use once per week. If not dated, fine up to $150 and if it's not dated, fine up to $150 There's more to it on the site but this is really stupid. Letter is posted below. Front side ![]() Back side ![]() |

I would write my representative about this genius plan, but the Detroit City Council is too busy lining their own pockets. |

![]() That is a gigantic load of bullshit. I have to park on the street because it's the only parking available in front of my house. If I had to pay such obscene amounts of money just to park my car at night, I'd leave town, simple as that.

![]() I'm happy not calling myself Jeannette Cintron. Imagine the number of angry people she'll heard from now on.
And it's an awful amount of money. 600$/year for a permit to park in the street. Nobody wants to pay for that.

![]() We just got a dumb new regulation where we can't park on the street when it snows, so we have to park a 15 minute walk away in a town parking lot for 2 days minimum whenever it snows.
Before we would just park on alternating sides of the road when it snowed and it would take 2 nights to plow the whole road which was completely fine =\

![]() There's straight up blanket parking bans in Providence after snows, and most paid lots close for plowing if the snow is really bad. If you get like a foot+ of snow there's like half a dozen max covered lots in the entire city to park it's really annoying.
Most old New England cities have thin streets in nonsensical patterns that were laid out by cows 200 years ago so they take forever to plow properly too because there's nowhere for the snow to go. I can only imagine how much getting around after a heavy snow would suck in like old northern European cities.

![]() Man, I love it when councils and whatnot make mad capital off their people through a necessity. It just warms my heart to know that the public pays $300 to put their cars on public property maintained by taxpayer's money. It's excellent, imo./sarcasm

Such a regulation would never pass in my town, because there's a Catholic church in the old part of town with parking for about 30 cars but their congregation probably has around 1000 people (I think it's the only Catholic church in the county), because each and every mass, cars line up the streets in a three-block radius. The city would certainly profit from making people pay to park there, but there was a huge fiasco a few years ago when they tried to turn it into a one-way street, so I doubt they would try to set up paid parking.

![]() The street my parents live on is specifically designed so that university students can't park on it with ease. You can park on it overnight, but not from 10-4 mon-fri. Because all those, uh, people not at home would get disturbed by the parking or the some such. And no, there's absolutely no businesses around so it's not taking up prime parking or anything either. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen as seems the work of one bitchy, pushy person 20 years ago.

![]() We have parking tickets for residents too, but it costs 10 euros for an entire year. The area you can park in in limited but fairly large based on where you live, and the parking is free for anyone during holidays, sundays and from 8 PM to 9 AM overnight.
That shit is just ridiculous and out of proportion, it's almost cheaper to just put your car in a garage. What were they thinking?
