I disagree. Even with additional dedicated pads, it's not as stiff as you're thinking. Cymbals could still collapse and change around as the song dictates, the pedal could be used as either a second kick or as a pedal for a hihat. Even the tom pads could be different types of toms depending on the song-- they could even be put in place of other instruments such as cowbells or woodblocks or tambourines. I'm not saying things shouldn't be condensed at all; I'm saying the way it is now is TOO condensed.

And yes, what I'm describing is basically a very simple edrum adapted instead into a video game controller, and thus, lacking the brain components that would make it a functional kit on it's own, and instead have the guts of a controller in its place. But is that such a bad thing? People have even adapted the current RB drum kit into a musical instrument in its own right, even if its too simple to do anything of any true value with it. Hell, people have adapted Guitar Hero controllers to function as midi controllers. Does this mean the GH controller is too complicated? Is it so bad to have a special controller for a rhythm game which could be adapted into a musical instrument? I'd say that's a very good thing for the gameplay of the game, because if the tool is nearly functional as an instrument on its own, it increases the functionality of its ability to perform within the constraints of the game.

Not really. It would be very easy to have colors shared between toms and cymbals, and the way to read it would be a difference of the note that scrolls down. Like, a circle would be a cymbal of a color, while a square would be a drum head of that color. This sort of solution would also make it easier to justify playing on the RB1 sets, because all that would need to be done is to ignore the differences of scrolled notes... basically, it could uncondense the setup of the current kit for the next generation, while also making it condense-able on the fly for anyone playing on the previous set.

All the things you're alluding to would be better functioned as a high end extra peripheral. That would probably cost like 2x as much as the standard one. Metal costs a lot more to work with than plastic.

I agree though. I would love to see first part high end peripherals mass produced. You've no idea how much I'd love to have a guitar controller with metal frets on a wooden fingerboard. That would be amazing, even if I hardly ever play with it. And I've got tons of disposable income, so you know I'd totally drop a couple hundred on this in an instant.

I think variable judgments is nice, but when you take into account of a large amount of notes coming, the variable judgment would shrink, wouldn't it?

I guess this would explain why the individual notes tend to get harder to hit as the song gets faster. I remember how pissed I got when playing DFTR EX drums, and well, the drum part preceding the solo kicked my ASS. XD

The LAN that I play Counter-Strike and such at, has all three of the current-gen consoles, and the XBOX 360 has Rock Band. The whole set is bolted down to a sort of "platform" that extends upward a few inches, and the bass pedal is metal.

I'm not talking about the guitar at all, I'm just saying that a Plate of metal Shouldn't increase the price all that much. Also like I said i'm sure many people including myself broke the pedal in like 3 weeks.

Omg could I really, o wait it's amazon which means I need a credit card, and then I have to wait 2-4 weeks and probably attach it my self really could I that would be so helpful. I already knew I could go through the trouble of buying a metal one online.
I'm just saying it should come prepackaged and as for the increase in price, Well that doesn't really exist because you would still need to buy a metal plate anyways especially in canada were sending in a broken pedal cost $150 till you get it back and I don't have that kinda of money to put on hold.

Wouldn't be applicable for most songs, particularly ones from RB1.

I'd almost rather say they should add a turntable that'd play like Spin It Up that produces a chart on the fly based on the final mix of the music. Yeah, you could also create something yourself of similar quality for a couple bucks and a little bit of work. Or you could steal a butterknife and duct tape it to the thing for next to nothing.

I would say that what most people want is first party products of higher quality, not mods, not third party.

It'd burn harddrive space, I'll admit, but it opens the door to not need special contracts for the songs as DLC when they've already been established in another medium.

If it's FREE and Rock Band 2 on Wii isn't gimped, I'll jump ship to RB2 if I ever feel like wasting $200 on a single game.

The most important part about that link is that there are two complete track lists, despite being rumors.

Also i would have to say most eople like me have 20gb Hard drives which after all the DLC we buy and the whole RB1 one there we probably fill it up, and to pay $100+ for a new hard drive isn't easy.

Uh, no, buying a new harddrive is very easy.
  1. Go to store.
  2. Find harddrive on shelf.
  3. Pick up harddrive.
  4. Take harddrive to checkout.
  5. Tender cash in exchange for the harddrive.

If you mean "I don't want to spend 100$ on a larger harddrive", then consider what you'd be spending on a game. Consider that a harddrive is more open-ended in terms of data storage than a DVD. Also: i hate you.

It's harder to get a steady income at a younger age. It's still pretty easy to make money mowing grass or doing extra things around the house. Depends on how stiff your parents are and your financial situation.

More pads aren't what we need.

Additional pedal is. Additional cymbals would be great too.

But no more pads are needed. They've got drum heads covered already.
