Go for 300, especially if you can FC it. Starts slow, gets people thinking 'I could do this' then gets faster, and faster, and by the end you're slamming the keys at 300bpm and people have their jaws on the ground.

Streams seem to impress people way more than anything else, pick the fastest stream file you can do rather than a slower jumpstream file with the same difficulty.

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show

As a person who has done a set before at a talent show in the same fashion.

You should pick a song that you are 100% comfortable with, hitting at a decent speed, of a song that a lot of people like (not just you will like), and has both slow parts that average people can account for, and fast parts that makes people question your sanity. If you could get an SDG consistently on Death Piano then that would be a good example of the type of song you could play at a talent show and get away with it.

Also thankies for credits on putting FFR in talent show please get a friend to video record the experience as my friend never actually got his phone back.

btw, for exact song recommendation, I recommend something creasted by OSTER Project, something along those lines I forget how the actual artist name is spelt.

Serenade is the PERFECT song to play in front of unsuspecting people. The file is very quiet and easy for the first quarter then starts ramping up. It's right around your skill level and it will cause people in the crowd to believe that they are capable of doing it when you start, but they will have floored jaws by the end (presuming you play well )

Not to mention, the song itself kicks total ass.

I actually played Ambient Angels for an exhibition in one of my classes as a sophomore. The professor suggested I add my mad fiffer skillz to my resumé.
I dare say the file is too hard for the OP to play reliably in a public setting. I didn't even FC it when I played it and I was top 8 D5 at the time.

It really is no question in my mind that given another opportunity to play in public like that, I would pick Serenade without a second thought... even though I could get away with playing something much harder.

I have about 3 people willing to record also people in the past have recorded talent shows at my high school so I don't think that would be a problem.

It'd be cool to play a cool sounding one too, as i think its gonna be broadcast in the auditorium right?

I think it would be sweet to play kanon-kanon or bowser the shredder.
These files are a little technical, but would be crowdpleasers.

                    +1 for this!

great progressive difficulty build up like rushy said. Hell, maybe everyone will be so impressed they'll want an encore then you can do ambient angels lol

EDIT: just a thought, if you're playing on R3 turn off "amazing accuracy" so that way in case they look at your PA count at the end it will look more impressive lmao

pmuch fuck amazings forever IMO, I don't even do marvs on SM

Slower speedmods are more fun to watch, so it's a bonus if you don't play on 3.5x or something

The problem I find with Serenade is that it ends abruptly, and when doing a song in performance, ending abruptly may not get the best reception. R^2 uses a more drawn out ending for files, but R^3 cuts that timing in half, and songs like Serenade still end abruptly, even if done in R^2, because people don't use fade-outs fast enough for FFR..

If it didn't end abruptly, I definitely would have considered the song when I did it way back then.

i was thinking this too, ambient angels kinda ends abrupt as well
those two files are just so perfect for showcasing except for the cutoff.
They are still great files to showoff though

Alright I guess that's that, I have narrowed it down to 3 songs and I will be picking which one I'm going to use for auditions today. I will pick the song later on today before auditions and I will tell you guys if I make it into the talent show. Auditions are today and tomorrow and people apparently just walking in for them so there might be too much people for one day. So if you don't hear from me today then you will be hearing from me tomorrow to see if I made the cut.

Edit: Whoops almost forgot. I will also be giving out the credits later today so please be patient.

post-dumps abstractly represent the existential nihilism that the song invokes in the listener with negative space, evoking the ephemeral nature of the mind - the journey of stepmania begins in hope yet soon becomes corroded into a dialectic of futility, leaving only a sense of dread and the unlikelihood of a new synthesis
