I want to see passion return to video game creation. These days, the cost of manufacturing often makes money the primary resource in the creation of a "good" game, when really all you need for a game to be good is dedication and a desire to make it the best you can with what's available to you.

If I had to see core game element return? It would be simplicity in control of your character/army/whatever, with a complexity in either strategy, storyline, graphics or music. The game should be easy to pickup, and have some complex factor that keeps the person interested.

TLDR;

Simple controls.

I want to see long elaborate and interesting rpg's that focus more on gameplay instead of graphics.

rpg games are only fun when the story rulez
i dont really see in what is usefull to make a rpg game with a cheap story when i never die on those kind of game.
one of the reasons that Final Fantasy series still alive.
If i refer on my last dying on rpg, its was ff12 , last year.

Most of the video game guys I know who work today are getting rushed/bullied, so they have to hurry and not take time to put a lot of work into making sure everything goes correctly.

I'd like for them to be able to take their time, again. :P

Be a real rpg maker is a full time job.
You have a big difference between pass yours full time to make a rpg game in a big industries like Square Enix can't play games cause you already pass to much time in front of yours computer and making cheap rpg game like a hobbies or a past time by enjoying playing games.

This is why usually those peoples change job.

I've been playing video games since I was about 2 or 3 years old. Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt are among my first memories, and I was a Nintendo fanboy for a lot of my life. First off, I miss a good 2D game (I don't have any handhelds, so hold your comments). There's absolutely nothing wrong with them. They're great. I think sprites and such really made video games more colorful and lively. Of course, not all games are best fit to be 2D. However...

I also miss games with a simple premise. Nowadays, it seems like video games are designed to have endless options, endless possibilities, and endless endings. The principle of Mario is simple: Get to the end of the stage, don't touch enemies, don't fall in a hole. You run and you jump. The end. But Mario's not necessarily an easy game, because it wasn't the player's side that challenged you, it was the computer's side. They made sure to have plenty of obstacles, plenty of tricky situations, and despite all this on-screen confusion, you STILL only had two options to navigate it: run...or jump. You don't need menus upon menus of commands. Keep the premise simple, and then be creative with the situations the player has to work through with what little he has.

The challenge should be beating the game, not deciding how to beat the game.

I'm not anti-RPG, in case you interpret my comment that way. I've played most of the Final Fantasies, Tales series, Star Ocean series, among plenty of others. Some have a great flow to them, and some are just bogged down in too much sh*t. As far as RPGs go, however, I think atmosphere is at least as important as the story is, and a fun, catchy battle system is a must.

tl;dr version: depends on what kind of game you're making, really.

Difficulty. All the newer games these days are so god damn easy. I remember playing games like Zelda II on the NES that were a ****ing bitch but they were amazing because of that.
