I take back all the good things I said about Vista

So my friend got a tricked out computer with Vista. 3G RAM and duel core extreme with Vista OS. Everything is working fine and fast and I started liking Vista. Internet works great, I can download things. Time to install Xfire, Messenger, and World of Warcraft. Why isn't Xfire connecting? Why isn't Messenger connecting? Now I am ****ing pissed. WoW won't even connect. This computer is so damn secure I can't even do **** I want to do. If this doesn't get better by SP1 I think I may kill myself.

How do I fix this? He has Norton as well which may be a problem. For the love of god this is about as fun as cutting off my own dick. HELP! ! !

Make sure all the software you are trying to run is updated to the correct version. If it's an outdated version, it may not work so make sure everything is updated.

Also for WoW, go to the WoW website under FAQ's and look for firewall settings. It tells you which ports you should have open on Norton so WoW can connect.

I just rememberd, make sure your on the administrative account for the computer. If your not, you can't do ANYTHING. Vista is a pain in the ass, the UAC (User Account Control) is really difficult and always complains. If your not an administrator, it wont let you install anything.

I JUST downloaded them and I've already opened ports.

After trying to close Norton for HOURS (kept telling me acess denied) I took off the entire Norton Firewall...Vista owns but for the love of god....NORTON IS A PIECE OF ****

But this dosen't sound like it's Norton's fault. Like I said, if your not an admin for the computer with Vista, you can't install anything thanks to the User Account Control. Get admin.

Yup that UAC. Whats happenig is, the patch is trying to download itself, but Vista isn't letting it. I had the same problem. Get admin.

            I am...
            Are you?

EDIT: Ahh wait! Solution I just remembered. While on admin account, right click the WoW icon on your desktop and click update. Im pretty sure thats what I did and it worked...

I love how Vista looks ... but functionality and compatibility issues are keeping me stuck to XP.

Damnit Microsoft. Fix your fcking OS.

Norton will always interfere with your Internet connection, games, etc.

It is a piece of garbage and nobody should use it.

                    Lol, Burning Crusade.

I have Norton 2007 set at medium security, except I'm using XP. WoW installation had no problems. Played WoW for three weeks. Quit. Got on with my life.

EDIT: Squeek is right. Norton keeps me from using my comp as a remote circumventor to access blocked sites from the school network. Therefore nobody should use it XD

It's not my Vista and Vista will be good when SP1 comes out and applications become more compatible with it. Eventually even YOU will have to get it just like the Empire of Microsoft wants it.

You can have a life and play WoW...you just have to moderate how much you play.

Yes but I can't actually close Norton.

@Zageron: Why not use windows 95 and get a Vista Skin =D
Vista is better but still has kinks in it. Right now it sucks but until SP1 comes out AND applications become more computable with it Vista at the moment is fail.

@TaRa: It's just the WoW now but Sully has told me how to fix it. Trying tomarrow

hmmm if i remember correctly, DEP (data excution prevention) screws a lot of programs up. I turned mine off when i had Vista

                              Open the control panel
                              System and Maintenance
                              System
                              Advanced System Settings
                              Under Preformance click Settings
                              Data Execution Provention
                              Turn Data Execution Provention off

This worked for me in sooo many wonderful ways.
