    What is screencutting good for?

I see all these people screencutting... just curious what it's done for other than hiding the screen?

    In bullet form:

    -Reduces lag.
-Less arrows on screen at once.
-People like to show off their desktop. (j/k, that's not true at all.)
    Note to self Finish.

Actually, it makes playing the game easier, and it made my scores shoot up.

it really reduces lag? and i thought it helped with reaction time too

It helps with timing and reaction time.

Re: What is screencutting good for?

doesn't do anything for lag. what it does is makes you see less arrows on the screen at once, which makes it easier to read those arrows.

also, because you have less time to react, it simulates a higher speedmod.

note: this is mostly moot now, since we have speedmods. although a few of us are still more comfortable with 1x and screencutting instead of using a higher speedmod.

It's an artificial simulation of my comfortable C675 in SM. Speedmods don't work for me, because the animation is too choppy, the accuracy labels get in the way, (PERFECT! PERFECT! PERFECT!) the ginormous combo labels get in the way, and I can't tell 5-framers from 4-framers, causing tons of avmisses. With speedmods, I forget I'm not playing SM and I forget to hit early on jacks. yeah

What helps reduce game lag then besides pressing the low-qual button (which I already do, but it doesn't seem to be as fast as I'd like it to be)

i didnt really read the other posts, this was probably mentioned but ffr didnt have speed mods of course and i find that the speeds are REALLY different so i play on 1.5 with a little cut, 1.75 is normally to fast

Why are you asking that question, if you played SM before FFR, you simply need it to simulate Cspeeds. That was before speed mods, but some people still screencut because flash engine is very low fps and only makes it harder to play if you were used to 1x and cut before. This may differ for newer or less skilled players but in the end, I think 1x screen cut holds the highest skill potential achievable.

I actually used the speedmod before screencutting, so I prefer the speedmod over that. Really, if you use one or the other over it, you should keep using it because you'll become better overtime with either one.

I just don't really understand it -- I just use speedmods if I want to read something more easily (1.75-2x works well. 3x is too fast to be reliably accurate). I do not understand how information omission improves one's ability unless they are being distracted by superfluous arrows down below out of timing proximity, or the combo counter/judgment area.

You see, screencutting works EXACTLY like a cmod--less arrows on screen, and a more fast, forced reaction. Before speedmods in FFR came out (which wasn't long ago at all), this is what most known FFR players did, and most have gotten really used to it.

I, for example, can't read anything at all on a high cmod (c600ish), especially jumpstream. I even screencut for SM, because I've played FFR longer and more than SM. =/

Screencutting used to be done before speed mods were released, to compensate sort of i guess. I don't think very many people do it anymore.
