Congrats on the book!! Wow that's really cool. What did you love and hate the most about the whole book writing process, if anything? -

Re: I wrote a book about overcoming learning anxiety
Ty!
What I loved most is seeing my ideas get organized on the page. It helped me make sense of my own reality and, even if no one had read it, it would have been a very powerful exercise for my brain. I once heard someone say, "When you write a book, you have to become the book." That rings true.
There is not a lot that I hated when writing this. Writing is my hobby, like stepping charts used to be. I might have hated writing this if the goal had been to write a book from the beginning, since that would have been a mountain too high to climb. Instead, I wrote the majority of the text as a blog post in 2022 and just kept adding to it as new ideas came to me, until I realized "damn, I have enough material to turn this into a book."
If you look at archive.org for the blog post, you can actually see this evolution: https://web.archive.org/web/20240000...rning-anxiety/
Thanks for your enthusiasm.WOAAAH this is sick!! if i may ask, what is the inspiration/story behind making this book? ill have to check this out!

It is the secret ambition of all writers to be read, so know that your words are energizing and feel really sweet! Indeed, the inspiration behind the book is told in its first part.
I wrote this because I had learning anxiety and felt stuck in life since I didn't know how to learn about something if it didn't immediately click with me. When I was threatened with losing my job in 2022, I decided to give everything I had to try to learn the skills I was missing, to see how far I could really make it. In this process, I learned how to learn, and it was a transformative experience. I found, among many things, my calling in life, which is to bring joy back into learning.Comment

That’s so inspiring! Overcoming learning anxiety is such a huge accomplishment, and it’s awesome that you turned it into a book. I’ve struggled with anxiety around school too, especially when it comes to writing essays and meeting deadlines. I’ve been looking for ways to handle that better, and your story gives me hope. For anyone else dealing with similar challenges, sometimes getting extra help can make a big difference—find out here about one option that’s been helpful for me. I’d love to hear more about your writing process and how you stayed motivated!Last edited by BruceAdler; 10-9-2024, 05:41 AM.Comment

Re: I wrote a book about overcoming learning anxiety
Thanks for the kind words everyone! I look forward to read your feedback
I'm currently working on building https://learninganxiety.com
Great question. There was no deadline: this project advanced simply because I kept thinking about it. It wasn't anxiety inducing, it was fun. If you can make it fun, you'll get it done. The biggest part of the book was written in 2022, when it was just a blog post. I think that was key. If I had written this as a book from the beginning, I would have had analysis paralysis. As months went by, I was reading and tweaking the text on my phone in public transit as I found things worth adding. When it felt complete enough, I printed my first copy on lulu.com. I shared it as much as I could and integrated feedback. Slow and steady.
I'm fairly lazy by nature, and I can hardly control what I focus on (ADD?). What helps me progress most are small victories or visible signs of advancement. The best tip I could give you is:
- find a way to quickly edit your text from as many devices/moments as possible. The more enjoyable, the better
- don't overthink it at first. Better to write garbage that can be filtered later than to freeze and write nothingLast edited by MarioNintendo; 10-12-2024, 07:52 PM.Comment
