Always wear a helmet

Be extra careful when riding in rain. I didn't think anything of riding on wet asphalt until I fucking slid in the middle of an intersection. Ever since then I just ride extra carefully when it's raining.

Lock up your shit, even if you think you live in a safe neighborhood.

Buy gear to cover your face and hands if you plan to ride during the winter. I only had a bike for transportation at one point and riding without warming gear is fucking BRUTAL. Even if it only gets to like, 30 or 40f, you still want stuff to cover up with.

If you're new to riding, try fucking around at night when there aren't many cars. I used to ride around 2-3 in the morning to just get used to it when I first got a bike, and it helped a lot not having to ride in heavy traffic.



I cannot stress the helmet part enough. No matter how dumb you think it looks, wear a helmet. If there was only one rule you ever needed to follow, it's that one. Everything else just about can be learned though trial and error. If you aren't wearing a helmet, there is no trial, only error and consequences.

Other than that, have fun and enjoy your bike. It looks sweet.

anyway sick ride, look up on defensive driving and learn as soon as possibile how to do essential manteinance on your own bike

In the US, helmet laws are pretty much dependent on the state you live in. Some have no laws against not wearing one, some require you to wear one up to a specific age (usually like 18 years old), and in some it's mandatory.

However, where I live, even though it's against the law to not wear one, I see people riding constantly without them which makes me believe that it's not even really all that enforced.
