Re: What was your Teenage Inspirational Song
It's hard to pin-point one song because starting at age 16 I started listening to alot of music of every genre. This was also the time I tried DDR and it made me realize that electronic/techno wasn't just something you could find in games (ironic considering that DDR itself is a game lol)
I also started staying up late (9:00...ohhhh yeeaahhh) to listen to Big Band on a local station. 1920-40s stuff, mostly. Big Band and swing where actually really cool and I enjoy listening to it to this day. Also started looking up indie acts online. I remember when nobody knew who Nina was lol.
I guess to put all of this in perspective you have to realize that on the Beaches in the Florida panhandle Jimmy Buffet is hailed as God; and saying you don't want to listen to Conway Twitty is reason for half your family to try and stab you. I myself grew up on "Golden Oldies"---Everly Brothers, Fats Domino, Shangri-LAS, The *actual* Jimmy Dean, Elvis, Beatles, Sam Cook, The Hollies, so on---but if it wasn't that I was subjected to Country music, and holy shit did it get shittier and shittier the more I heard it. I just simply didn't care for music that much unless mom was going to play one of her classical records (Brahms, Tchaikovsky, even Pavarotti) because to me, that was stunning shit (and rightfully, still is).
I guess to pick two examples for the time frame you asked of, Missing's Heart's cover of Moonlight Shadow and the long version of BanYa's Love is a Danger zone come to mind as old songs that I still enjoy for the nostalgic value. It's more of the type of music, for me, then just one song. I do have songs that I like for personal reasons but they either are more recent (pass age 18) or come from long, long ago (under 13).
TL/DR I liked Missing Heart guysComment
