Why can I never seem to find charts that I want

So, I'll listen to a song, often Touhou, and think that it be cool to play this on SM. But when I go to look it up, all I get is Youtube videos of people playing the charts that I want to get. It can't just be chart artists that don't give out their charts, because this literally happens every time. Even with "download" in the search, I will never find a download; it will usually have a bunch of video links, and then go straight to mp3 download sites.

Where the hell are these people in this sea of videos getting their charts? The charts MUST exist somewhere, and it should be a LOT easier to find with Google than it is. Is there something I'm missing here? Why is it so hard to find songs. Even trying to go to sites that allegedly have songs seems to run me into a dead end, though sifting through something like would only be more frustrating.

It seems like there used to be songs everywhere, and at some point they started disappearing. What's going on here?

people aren't hosting files anymore. simfile database here died a long time ago as well.

individual files are pretty hard to find, but if you ask here I'm sure someone will have something for you.

Do you mean that noone is hosting ANY song anymore? I did find this kind of site that has a list of packs, the only way I was able to get the Q.E.D. packs again when I got my new computer.

Other than asking and hoping with asking people, what is a good way to find songs? Even the SM site ITSELF seems to have lost its song list that it used to have.

The one I was looking for is No Life Queen. I used to be able to just google a song name and add stepmania to the search. Now that's different. Did the copyright sweep that seemed to happen around the time SOPA was around have anything to do with this?

stepmaniaonline.net? That site archives quite a lot of packs, maybe you got it from there?

nah, stepmania communities have always been obscure enough to avoid being targeted for sharing music as far as I know.

packs are hosted in several different locations. there just isn't a good hub for single simfile downloads anymore.

you could try searching for a simfile to see if it's in a widely known pack:

            good luck!

Well fission has been helpful to me lately =^_^= meow~~
anyway, you sir, might be some kind of god. Let's see how well this thing works out...

Anyway, this is the pack site I ran into once: http://houkouonchi.net:8080/packs/
There are NO info on songs or even the quality of the packs. But it seems they are a collection by one person, so it might not be bad?

And, if anyone is interested, I have this old pack. I literally can NOT find this anymore. I even found it once by googling the names of the songs together with a SM search, and I tried it again when I got my new computer, and nothing. Very decend Touhou pack; message me if you're interested.

Edit/ forgot something: Oh, how do I use the http://indeedengine.com/packs/pack.php?id=1201 site?

Houkouonchi hosts the FTP server at http://smonline.net/index.php?page=downloads iirc and I'm pretty sure all of those packs are there also. The SMO site is offline from what it looks like atm though

                  Released!

this is by no means an exhaustive list, but a bunch of packs that i would recommend getting if you are looking for high quality packs (midare and mina are dump packs, beware of those).

EDIT: i don't know what that stepmania 3.95 folder is doing there o.O, ignore that

I think someone has made a Touhou pack before, I'm just not sure where it is

All right, so I used the Indeed Engine to figure out which file you're looking for.

                          * File name is "No Life Queen"
                          * Touhou pack you're looking for

                          I think it's in Touhou 1.

Oh, I have that pack. I was hoping for a different version of the song. Also, many of the charts of that pack, I really can't play. Either because I'm not good enough, or it does that thing where they make the bpm really high, so I can't find a good balance between being able to read the chart fast enough, and being able to tell the different between notes because they're too freaking close together.
