the purpose of pure chiptune is to use the hardware as it was intended. LSDJ that I use for gameboy is strictly 4 channels. It pushes the artist to compose with limited voices (3 voices and 1 noise channel). I used to do stuff on FL studio with like 10 different instruments but it's such a fake artificial sound that it's hardly impressive. It's just personal preference.
